The laboratory led by Prof. De Palma at EPFL focuses on investigating the interactions between genetically altered cancer cells and the host tissues in which tumors develop. They study the communication between malignant cells and the vascular system, immune cells, and extracellular vesicles to understand how these interactions influence tumor progression. By using genetic models of breast, lung, and melanoma cancers, they aim to visualize and modify the expression of genes to improve tumor response to anti-cancer therapies, particularly immunotherapies. The lab's research also delves into engineered dendritic cell vaccines, targeting tumor-associated macrophages, anti-angiogenesis strategies, and tumor-derived extracellular vesicles.
