"Soft"muons with a transverse momentum below 10 GeV are featured in many processes studied by the CMS experiment, such as decays of heavy-flavor hadrons or rare tau lepton decays. Maximizing the selection efficiency for these muons, while simultaneously su ...

A measurement of the top quark pair (tt¯) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC in autumn 2017, in dedicated runs with low-energy and low-intensity condi ...

The prospects are presented for precise measurements of the branching ratios of the purely leptonic Bc+ → τ+ντ and B+ → τ+ντ decays at the Future Circular Collider (FCC). This work is focused on the hadronic τ(+) → π(+)π(+)π(-) nu(tau) decay in both Bc+ → ...

High energy collisions at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produce a large number of particles along the beam collision axis, outside of the acceptance of existing LHC experiments. The proposed Forward Physics Facility (FPF), to be located s ...

We study the mixed system of correlation functions involving a scalar field charged under a global U(1) symmetry and the associated conserved spin-1 current J(mu). Using numerical bootstrap techniques we obtain bounds on new observables not accessible in t ...

An amplitude analysis of B-0 ((+-))(K+-) decays is performed in the two-body invariant mass regions 300 < m((+-)) < 1100 MeV/c(2), accounting for the (0), , f(0)(500), f(0)(980) and f(0)(1370) resonances, and 750 < m(K+-) < 1200 MeV/c(2), which is dominate ...

In high energy physics, silicon particles detectors are widely used in tracking applications. They feature high-resolution measurements of the traversing particle positioning and frequently its energy. With the new possibilities introduced by technology sc ...

We explore the sensitivity of the LHC at 14 TeV centre -of -mass energy (LHC14) to the single production and decay of top-antitop resonances in the four -top final state. We focus on the same -sign dilepton channel, and work within a simplified model with ...

Angular correlations in B+ -> X(3872)K+ decays, with X(3872) -> rho(0)J/psi, rho(0) -> pi(+)pi(-) and J/psi -> pi(+)pi(-), are used to measure orbital angular momentum contributions and to determine the J(PC) value of the X(3872) meson. The data correspond ...

We apply the principles of Bayesian statistics to the main probes of cosmology, in order to refine our knowledge of the Standard Model and possibly extend it. Notably, we investigate the basic elements of the model in detail in order to reinforce this basi ...

The branching fractions of the decay B+ -> p (p) over barK(+) for different intermediate states are measured using data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment. The total branching fraction, its charmless ...

The four experiments of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN have collected their first data at √s = 7 TeV, hailing an exciting era in particle physics. The LHCb detector is a single-arm forward spectrometer, dedicated to precision measurements of CP vi ...

In a future beta-beam facility, radioactive ions (namely, 6He and 18Ne) are produced, accelerated, and then stored in a large decay ring, where they eventually produce neutrino beams through beta decay. Radiation protection is of great concern for this fac ...

We study statistical signatures of composite bosons made of two fermions by extending number states to these quantum particles. Two-particle correlations as well as the dispersion of the probability distribution are analyzed. We show that the particle comp ...

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), combined with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)—both single and tandem differential mobility analyzer (TDMA)—have been used to investigate particles emitted by two modern 2-stroke scooters with different mix ...
