Electrochemical CO2 methanation powered by renewable electricity provides a promising approach to utilizing CO2 in the form of a high-energy-density, clean fuel. Cu nanoclusters have been predicted by theoretical calculations to improve methane selectivity ...

Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) electrolyzers offer a means to scale up CO2-to-ethylene electroconversion using renewable electricity and close the anthropogenic carbon cycle. To date, excessive CO2 coverage at the catalyst surface with limited active si ...

Due to the highly complex polyphenolic structure of lignin, depolymerization without a prior chemical treatment is challenging, and new catalysts are required. Atomically dispersed catalysts are able to maximize the atomic efficiency of noble metals, simul ...

Photoelectrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (PEC-CO2R) represents a promising approach for producing renewable fuels and chemicals using solar energy. However, attaining even modest solar-to-fuel (STF) conversion efficiency often necessitates the use of ...

Multimetal oxyhydroxides have recently been reported that outperform noble metal catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In such 3d-metal-based catalysts, the oxidation cycle of 3dmetals has been posited to act as the OER thermodynamic-limiting proc ...

Designing and synthesizing efficient molecular catalysts may unlock the great challenge of controlling the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) with molecular precision. Nickel phthalocyanine (NiPc) appears as a promising candidate for this task due to its adjus ...

Efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), particularly in neutral conditions, are of significant importance for renewable energy technologies such as CO2 reduction and seawater splitting electrolysis. High-valent transiti ...

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 to ethylene provides a carbon-neutral avenue for the conversion of CO2 to value-added fuels and feedstocks, so contributing to the storage of intermittent renewable electricity. The exploration of efficient electrocatal ...

The use of molecular modulators to reduce the defect density at the surface and grain boundaries of perovskite materials has been demonstrated to be an effective approach to enhance the photovoltaic performance and device stability of perovskite solar cell ...

Solar-driven carbon dioxide reduction has witnessed a renaissance in the past decades, but the system suffers from low reaction rates. Here the authors develop a copper/tin-oxide electrocatalyst, achieving a new benchmark solar-to-CO energy conversion effi ...

Among all CO2 electroreduction products, methane (CH4) and ethylene (C2H4) are two typical and valuable hydrocarbon products which are formed in two different pathways: hydrogenation and dimerization reactions of the same CO intermediate. Theoretical studi ...

CO2 electroreduction powered by renewable electricity represents a promising method to enclose anthropogenic carbon cycle. Current catalysts display high selectivity toward the desired product only over a narrow potential window due primarily to unoptimize ...
