The synthesis of molecular-sieving two-dimensional zeolitic membranes by the assembly of crystalline building blocks without resorting to the secondary growth process is highly desirable. The precise pore size for molecular sieving, ultrathin thickness, an ...

Etching single-layer graphene to incorporate a high pore density with sub-angstrom precision in molecular differentiation is critical to realize the promising high-flux separation of similar-sized gas molecules, e.g., CO2 from N2. However, rapid etching ki ...

High-performance membranes have emerged as an energy-efficient alternative to absorption-based postcombustion carbon capture. So far, the techno-economic analyses have been centered around the polymeric membranes. Recently, nanoporous single-layer graphene ...

The synthesis of high-performance gas-sieving zeolitic film is challenging because it involves seeded secondary growth which is complex and difficult to reproduce. Additionally, expensive asymmetric inorganic porous supports are often needed for calcinatio ...

Enhancing the kinetics of liquid-vapor transition from nanoscale confinements is an attractive strategy for developing evaporation and separation applications. The ultimate limit of confinement for evaporation is an atom thick interface hosting angstrom-sc ...

Metal nanoparticles with a precisely controlled particle size distribution are ideal model catalysts for fundamental studies in catalysis. In this work, the thermal stability of size-selected Cu nanoparticles (Cu NPs) were deposited by magnetron sputtering ...

High-permeance, molecular-sieving, nanoporous single-layer graphene (NSLG) membranes are highly promising for gas separation. However, the formation of cracks during the transfer of NSLG to a low-cost porous support is difficult to avoid. These cracks are ...

Porous carbon films, attributed to their superior thermal and chemical robustness, are attractive for a number of applications. In the context of molecular separation, a major focus has been on films where the effective pore diameter is lower than 1 nm, e. ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials with atom- or few-atoms-thick layers have emerged as building-blocks in the synthesis of the next-generation membrane-based separations. Generally, 2D material-based membranes display high permeation and high selectivity due ...

The single-layer graphene film, when incorporated with molecular-sized pores, is predicted to be the ultimate membrane. However, the major bottlenecks have been the crack-free transfer of large-area graphene on a porous support, and the incorporation of mo ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) films have recently emerged as highly permselective membranes yielding orders of magnitude higher gas permeance than that from the conventional membranes. However, synthesis of highly-intergrown, ultrathin MOF films on porou ...

Incorporation of a high density of molecular-sieving nanopores in the graphene lattice by the bottom-up synthesis is highly attractive for high-performance membranes. Herein, we achieve this by a controlled synthesis of nanocrystalline graphene where incom ...

The synthesis of molecular-sieving zeolitic membranes by the assembly of building blocks, avoiding the hydrothermal treatment, is highly desired to improve reproducibility and scalability. Here we report exfoliation of the sodalite precursor RUB-15 into cr ...

The study of the nanometer-scale vacancy defects (nanopores) in graphene by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is severely hindered by the presence of polymeric residues originating from the graphene-transfer-step to the TEM grid. The state-of-the-art ...

Thescalable synthesis of high-temperature H-2-sieving membranesfor energy-efficient carbon capture can potentiallyenable the implementation of precombustion carbon capture at a rapidpace. ...

Predictable and tunable etching of angstrom-scale nanopores in single-layer graphene (SLG) can allow one to realize high-performance gas separation even from similar-sized molecules. We advance toward this goal by developing two etching regimes for SLG whe ...

The present relates to a nanoporous carbon membrane manufacturing method comprising coating a block copolymer film with hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks, on a sacrificial non-porous substrate so as to prepare an block copolymer film coated foil, transfer ...
