A light pulse source (100), being adapted for generating repetitive optical pulses (1), comprises a continuous wave cw laser device (10) being arranged for providing cw laser light (2), an optical waveguide (20) being optically coupled with the cw laser de ...

Mid-infrared optical frequency combs are of significant interest for molecular spectroscopy due to the large absorption of molecular vibrational modes on the one hand, and the ability to implement superior comb-based spectroscopic modalities with increased ...

Collective effects leading to spatial, temporal or spatiotemporal pattern formation in complex nonlinear systems driven out of equilibrium cannot be described at the single-particle level and are therefore often called emergent phenomena. They are characte ...

Dissipative solitons are self-localized structures resulting from a double balance between dispersion and nonlinearity as well as dissipation and a driving force. They occur in a wide variety of fields ranging from optics, hydrodynamics to chemistry and bi ...

The formation of temporal dissipative Kerr solitons in microresonators driven by a continuous-wave laser enables the generation of coherent, broadband, and spectrally smooth optical frequency combs as well as femtosecond pulse sources with compact form fac ...

Octave-spanning, self-referenced frequency combs are applied in diverse fields ranging from precision metrology to astrophysical spectrometer calibration. The octave-spanning optical bandwidth is typically generated through non-linear spectral broadening o ...

Temporal-dissipative Kerr solitons are self-localized light pulses sustained in driven nonlinear optical resonators. Their realization in microresonators has enabled compact sources of coherent optical frequency combs as well as the study of dissipative so ...

The generation of dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators has provided a route to compact frequency combs of high repetition rate, which have already been employed for optical frequency synthesizers, ultrafast ranging, coherent telecommunicati ...

Continuous-wave-driven Kerr nonlinear microresonators give rise to self-organization in terms of dissipative Kerr solitons, which constitute optical frequency combs that can be used to generate low-noise microwave signals. Here, by applying either amplitud ...

Microcombs provide a path to broad-bandwidth integrated frequency combs with low power consumption, which are compatible with wafer-scale fabrication. Yet, electrically-driven, photonic chip-based microcombs are inhibited by the required high threshold pow ...

Microwave photonic technologies, which upshift the carrier into the optical domain, have facilitated the generation and processing of ultra-wideband electronic signals at vastly reduced fractional bandwidths. For microwave photonic applications such as rad ...

Exceptional points are a ubiquitous concept widely present in driven-dissipative coupled systems described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. To date, exceptional points have been extensively examined in the systems supporting only a few optical modes, thereb ...

The generation of dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators allow compact high repetition rate frequency combs. A particularly promising platform is photonic integrated Si3N4 microresonators. Yet to date, soliton formation in Si3N4 microresonato ...

Using photonic integrated silicon nitride microresonators of quality factor exceeding 15 million, we demonstrate 19-GHz-repetition-rate single soliton with 35 mW optical power, and characterize the phase noise of the repetition rate in the K-band microwave ...

We demonstrate via self-injection locking an electrically driven soliton micro-comb by coupling a multi-frequency laser diode to a chip-scale high-Q Si3N4 microresonator. This approach offers a pathway for an integrated and ultra-compact microcomb source f ...

We demonstrate an approach to dual-comb spectroscopy, based on dispersion engineered and ultra-broadband supercontinuum generation in photonic integrated nonlinear waveguides, and driven by low-noise fiber-laser combs. Both technologies arc statc-of-the-ar ...

We report trace-gas absorption spectroscopy based on the efficient generation of a 3.05μm dispersive wave in a Si3N4 waveguide pumped by a 2.09 μm femtosecond mode-locked fiber laser ...

We demonstrate a current-initiated soliton microcomb by injection-locking a multi-frequency laser diode to a chip-scale high-Q Si3N4 microresonator. This approach offers a pathway for integrated and ultra-compact microcomb source for high-volume applicatio ...

Using the photonic Damascene reflow process, we present single soliton formation in 99-GHz-FSR Si3N4 microresonators of Q-factor exceeding 15 x 10(6), with less than 10 mW optical power. ...

Optical frequency combs enable precision measurements in fundamental physics and have been applied to a growing number of applications, such as molecular spectroscopy, LIDAR and atmospheric trace-gas sensing. In recent years, the generation of frequency co ...
