Long acquisition times preclude the application of multiecho spin echo (MESE) sequences for myelin water fraction (MWF) mapping in daily clinical practice. In search of alternative methods, previous studies of interest explored the biophysical modeling of ...

Multi-echo T-2 magnetic resonance images contain information about the distribution of T-2 relaxation times of compartmentalized water, from which we can estimate relevant brain tissue properties such as the myelin water fraction (MWF). Regularized non-neg ...

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) can increase the specificity and sensitivity of conventional weighted MRI to underlying pathology by comparing meaningful physical or chemical parameters, measured in physical units, with normative values acqu ...

Objective: Pathology in multiple sclerosis is not homogenously distributed. Recently, it has been shown that structures adjacent to CSF are more severely affected. A gradient of brain tissue involvement was shown with more severe pathology in periventricul ...

Purpose: Although clinical 7T MRI offers various advantages compared to lower field strengths, achieving spatially uniform flip angle distributions remains a challenge. Sampling Perfection with Application optimized Contrast using different flip angle Evol ...

The thalamus is a collection of gray matter nuclei that play a crucial role in sensorimotor processing and modulation of cortical activity. Characterizing thalamic nuclei non-invasively with structural MRI is particularly relevant for patient populations w ...

Purpose: Studies at 3T have shown that T-1 relaxometry enables characterization of brain tissues at the single-subject level by comparing individual physical properties to a normative atlas. In this work, an atlas of normative T-1 values at 7T is introduce ...

Tractography enables identifying and evaluating the healthy and diseased brain's white matter pathways from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data. As previous evaluation studies have reported significant false-positive estimation biases, recen ...

Recovering the distribution from multi-echo magnetic resonance (MR) signals is challenging but has high potential as it provides biomarkers characterizing the tissue micro-structure, such as the myelin water fraction (MWF). In this work, we propose to comb ...

Purpose To exploit the improved comparability and hardware independency of quantitative MRI, databases of MR physical parameters in healthy tissue are required, to which tissue properties of patients can be compared. In this work, normative values for long ...

The HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study, a multi-site prospective longitudinal cohort study, will examine human brain, cognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional development beginning prenatally and planned through early childhood. The acqui ...

Rapid and efficient transmission of electric signals among neurons of vertebrates is ensured by myelin-insulating sheaths surrounding axons. Human cognition, sensation, and motor functions rely on the integrity of these layers, and demyelinating diseases o ...

Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of synthetic T2-weighted images of the lumbar spine derived from ten-fold undersampled k-space data using GRAPPATINI, a combination of a model-based approach for rapid T2 and M0 quantification (MARTINI) ext ...

Objective To investigate the utility of an automatic deep learning (DL) method for segmentation of T2 maps in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) against healthy controls, and also the association of quantitative T2 values in patients with ...

Background Long acquisition times and motion sensitivity limit T-2 mapping in the abdomen. Accelerated mapping at 3 T may allow for quantitative assessment of diffuse pancreatic disease in patients during free-breathing. Purpose To test the feasibility of ...

Objectives T(2)mapping of the intervertebral disc (IVD) can depict quantitative changes reflecting biochemical change due to loss of glycosaminoglycan content. Conventional T(2)mapping is usually performed using a 2-dimensional multi-echo-spin echo sequenc ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has yielded great success as a medical imaging modality in the past decades, and its excellent soft tissue contrast is used in clinical routine to support diagnosis today. However, MRI is still facing challenges. For exampl ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: MS lesions exhibit varying degrees of axonal and myelin damage. A comprehensive description of lesion phenotypes could contribute to an improved radiologic evaluation of smoldering inflammation and remyelination processes. This stud ...

Objectives This study introduced a tailored MP2RAGE-based brain acquisition for a comprehensive assessment of the normal maturing brain. Methods Seventy normal patients (35 girls and 35 boys) from 1 to 16 years of age were recruited within a prospective mo ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely regarded as the primary modality for the morphological assessment of cartilage and all other joint tissues involved in osteoarthritis. 2D fast spin echo fat-suppressed intermediate-weighted (FSE FS IW) sequences w ...
