Vehicle emissions are a major contributor of air pollution in urban areas, with severe consequences for public health and the environment. This paper focuses on analyzing vehicle emissions in a multimodal urban context to better understand its determinants ...

Recent studies have demonstrated that Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD), which provides. an aggregated model of urban traffic dynamics linking network production and density, offers a new generation of real-time traffic management strategies to improve ...

Local traffic control schemes fall short of achieving coordination with other parts of the urban road network, whereas a centralized controller based on the detailed traffic models would suffer from excessive computational burden. State estimation for deta ...

The problem of clustering in urban traffic networks has been mainly studied in static framework by considering traffic conditions at a given time. Nevertheless, it is important to underline that traffic is a strongly time-variant process and it needs to be ...

Excessive noise in cities due to road traffic negatively affects human health. We utilize detailed vehicle trajectories collected by a swarm of drones to estimate traffic noise emissions in an urban environment. We use the CNOSSOS model to estimate vehicle ...

Recent analysis of empirical data from cities showed that a macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) of urban traffic provides for different network regions a unimodal, low-scatter relationship between network vehicle density and network space-mean flow. In t ...

This paper presents an alternative approach for analyzing the relationship between land use and traffic congestion by employing the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD). The MFD is an empirically observed relationship between traffic flow and traffic dens ...

The impact of ride-hailing vehicles on congestion raises multiple concerns, particularly in areas where the network space is constrained and the route infrastructure is unevenly distributed among multi-modal users. Mainly, idle ride-hailing vehicles pose m ...

An alternative approach for real-time network-wide traffic control in cities that has recently gained attention is perimeter flow control. Many studies have shown that this method is more efficient than state-of-the-art adaptive signal control strategies f ...

Emergency response services are critical for modern societies. This paper presents a model and a heuristic solution for the optimal deployment of many emergency response units in an urban transportation network and an application for transit mobile repair ...

The new era of sharing information and "big data" has raised our expectations to make mobility more predictable and controllable through a better utilization of data and existing resources. The realization of these opportunities requires going beyond the e ...

A smart design of transport systems involves efficient use and allocation of the limited urban road capacity in the multimodal environment. This paper intends to understand the system-wide effect of dividing the road space to the private and public transpo ...

The equilibrium of the archetypal morning commute problem with alpha -,B - gamma preferences has been shown to be unstable with various rational adjustment mechanisms, under both continuous and discrete day-to-day dynamics. It is not clear however whether ...

On-demand trip sharing is an efficient solution to mitigate the negative externalities e-hailing has on traffic in a network. It motivates platform operators to reduce their fleet size and serves the same demand level with a lower effective distance travel ...

Motivated by the growing popularity of both the services offered by the ride-hailing companies and the electric vehicles (EVs), we study a scenario in which a central body e.g., the government, wants to influence how the EVs of different ride-hailing compa ...

Bus operations, due to their unstable nature, are inefficient when left uncontrolled with respect to retaining headways. Irregularities such as bus bunching lead to loss of time and decrease bus service quality. Development of bus transport system manageme ...

The advent of shared-economy and smartphones made on-demand transportation services possible, which created additional opportunities, but also more complexity to urban mobility. Companies that offer these services are called Transportation Network Companie ...

Low-altitude aircraft is being developed as a new mode of urban transport. This will give rise to new urban air transport systems, called low-altitude air city transport (LAAT) systems. Recent works show that the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) is a ...

The work proposes a multi-modal regional mean speed regression analysis for the city network of Athens, Greece. The dataset from pNUEMA experiment is used in the present context. Accumulations and mean speeds of different modes are estimated and compared t ...
