Based on the clinical success of platinum-based anti-cancer drugs such as cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin, a variety of other metal-based anti-cancer compounds are being investigated. In particular, a number of ruthenium-based compounds have been id ...

Water soluble arene-functionalised trithiolato-bridged ruthenium complexes of general formula (eta(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH)(2)Ru-2(mu-SR)(3), where R = C6H5 (1), C6H4-p-OMe (2), C6H4-p-OMe (3), C6H4-p-Pr-i (4), C6H4-p-Bu-t (5), CH2C6H5 (6), CH2CH2C6H5 (7) an ...

The organometallic ruthenium(II) [Ru(arene)Cl2PTA] PTA - 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane compound, RAPTA-C, represents an innovative anti-cancer therapeutic and a better-tolerated alternative to platinum (Pt)-based chemotherapeutic drugs in the treatment ...

Hyperthermia used as an adjuvant with chemotherapy is highly promising in the treatment of certain cancers. Currently, the small molecule drugs used in combination with hyperthermia were not designed for this application. Herein, we report the evaluation o ...

The concentration of oxygen and its rate of consumption are important factors playing a role in PDT and radiotherapy. One of the methods for measuring the tissular oxygen partial pressure (pO 2) is based on the use of luminophores presenting an oxygen-depe ...

Tissular oxygen concentration plays a key role during photodynamic therapy (PDT). Therefore, monitoring its local oxygen partial pressure (pO(2)) may help predict and/or control the outcome of a PDT treatment. The first real-time, in vivo measurements of t ...

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an effective clinical treatment for a number of different cancers. PDT can induce hypoxia and inflammation, pro-angiogenic side effects, which may counteract its angio-occlusive mechanism. The combination of PDT with anti-angi ...

Prolactin is best known as the polypeptide anterior pituitary hormone, which regulates the development of the mammary gland. However, it became clear over the last decade that prolactin contributes to a broad range of pathologies, including breast cancer. ...

The impact of equilibrium helical flows on the stability properties of low shear tokamak plasmas is assessed. The corrections due to such helical flow to the equilibrium profiles (mass density, pressure, Shafranov shift, magnetic fluxes) are computed by mi ...

Ruthenium-based compounds show strong potential as anti-cancer drugs and are being investigated as alternatives to other well-established metal-based chemotherapeutics. The organometallic compound [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene) Cl-2(pta)], where pta = 1,3,5-triaza-7 ...

In this study, the photodynamic therapy (PDT) induced efficacy of a semi-synthesized analogue 151-hydroxypurpurin-7-lactone dimethyl ester or G2, in terms of chick chorioallantoic membrane blood vessel occlusion was evaluated in reference to verteporfin. E ...

The first effective therapy for exudative macular degeneration (AMD) was Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). Diagnosis of the disease was to a large extent by fluorescein angiography (FA). Distinguishing between the leaky choroidal neovessels (CNV) associated with ...

New triruthenium-carbonyl clusters derivatized with glucose-modified bicyclophosphite ligands have been synthesized. These compounds were found to have cytostatic and cytotoxic activity and depending on the number of bicyclophosphite ligands, and could be ...

Cancer cells are often dependent on epigenetic pathways for their survival. Consequently, drugs that target the epigenome, rather than the underlying DNA sequence, are currently attracting considerable attention. In recent years, the first epigenetic drugs ...

Hyperthermia is currently being explored as an adjuvant treatment to conventional therapies with chemotherapeutic agents based on thermoresponsive macromolecules. Although the concept of hyperthermia has existed for many years it has yet to become routinel ...

Osmium compounds are attracting increasing attention as potential anticancer drugs. In this context, a series of bifunctional organometallic osmium(II)-p-cymene complexes functionalized with alkyl or perfluoroalkyl groups were prepared and screened for the ...

The formation of new blood vessels, or angiogenesis, is a complex process that plays important roles in growth and development, tissue and organ regeneration, as well as numerous pathological conditions. Angiogenesis undergoes multiple discrete steps that ...

Following the identification of [Ru(eta(6)-p-cymene)Cl-2(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl-3-(pyridin-3-yl)propanoate)], a ruthenium(II)arene complex with a perfluoroalkyl-modified ligand that displays remarkable in vitro cancer cell selectivity, a series of stru ...

A series of arene ruthenium metalla-rectangles of general formula (eta(6)-p-cymene)(4)Ru-4(mu(4)-embelin)(2)(mu(2)-N boolean AND N)(2)(4) was prepared from the embelin-derived metalla-clip (eta(6)-p-cymene)(2)Ru-2(mu(4)-embelin) Cl-2 (1), silver ...
