Natural polymers such as those present in foods contain abundant noncovalent intra- and intermolecular interactions, notably hydrogen bonds, which make them rigid when dry, but on exposure to water soften, due to disruption of these interactions. This soft ...

Capture of CO2 is a crucial process to achieve carbon neutrality. High-performance CO2 capture involves both physi- and chemi-sorption, with a transition between them. However, the underlying mechanistic insights required to produce the methods to tune the ...

Due to the highly complex polyphenolic structure of lignin, depolymerization without a prior chemical treatment is challenging, and new catalysts are required. Atomically dispersed catalysts are able to maximize the atomic efficiency of noble metals, simul ...

Au nano- and microstructures such as polyhedral crystals, large single-cryst. nanoplates, hollow trapeziform crystals, holey polyhedra, and dendrites were produced via microwave heating of HAuCl4·4H2O in a variety of ionic liqs. (ILs) in the absence of cap ...

Recent years have witnessed considerable progress in the development of solar cells based on lead halide perovskite materials. However, their intrinsic instability remains a limitation. In this context, the interplay between the thermal degradation and the ...

The orthogonal structure of the widely used hole transporting material (HTM) 2,2 ',7,7 '-tetrakis(N, N-di-p-methoxyphenylamino)-9,9 '-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) imparts isotropic conductivity and excellent film-forming capability. However, inherently w ...

Water electrolysis is an advanced and sustainable energy conversion technology used to generate H-2. However, the low efficiency of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) hampers the overall water-splitting catalytic perf ...

Platform chemicals are usually derived from petrochemical feedstocks. A sustainable alternative commences with lignocellulosic biomass, a renewable feedstock, but one that is highly challenging to process. Ionic liquids (ILs) are able to solubilize biomass ...

Applying additives to perovskite precursor solutions is an effective way to passivate perovskite films for the construction of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with increased power-conversion efficiencies (PCEs) and enhanced stabilities. Ionic liquids (ILs) w ...

Core-shell nanocatalysts are attractive due to their versatility and stability. Here, we describe cobalt nanoparticles encapsulated within graphitic shells prepared via the pyrolysis of a cationic poly-ionic liquid (PIL) with a cobalt(II) chloride anion. T ...

A series of fluorescent imidazolium-based salts contg. the cation [AnCH2MeIm]+ (in which An=anthracene and Im=the imidazolium cation) with Cl-, BF4-, PF6-, SO3CF3-, [N(CN)2]-, [N(SO2CF3)2]-, or PhBF3- anions have been prepd. and characterized. X-ray diffra ...

N,N-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethylaniline compounds, Ph2PN-C6H4-C2H5, with ethyl groups at the ortho- and para-positions have been synthesized. Oxidation of the aminophosphines with hydrogen peroxide, elemental sulfur and selenium gave the corresponding ...

Catalytic dehydrogenation and hydrogenation of amines and alcohols are important in the synthesis of fine chemicals. Despite several efficient homogeneous catalysts having been identified, highly active heterogeneous catalysts remain elusive, although they ...

Biochar-based phase change materials (PCMs) are suitable for energy conservation to regulate the environment of greenhouses, but would benefit from higher specific surface area biochar to increase the polyethylene glycol (PEG) loading and enhanced thermal ...

There is a growing interest in sustainable heterogeneous catalysts based on organic polymers. Here, we describe a series of polyimidazolium salt catalysts, prepared from the direct reaction of arene- bridged bis- and tris-alkyl halides with trimethylsilyli ...

Catalytic lignosulfonate valorization is hampered by the in situ liberation of sulfur that ultimately poisons the catalyst. To overcome this limitation, metal sulfide catalysts were developed that are able to cleave the C-O bonds of lignosulfonate and are ...

Overall urea electrolysis has favorable thermodynamic properties and can complement traditional water splitting by simultaneously purifying urea-rich waste streams. However, the kinetics of the reaction is slow and more efficient catalysts are required. In ...

Hydrogen bonding in ionic liquids based on the 1-(2'-hydroxylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium cation (C(2)OHmim) and various anions (A) of differing H-bond acceptor strength, viz. hexafluorophosphate PF6, tetrafluoroborate BF4, bis-(trifluoro ...

Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are emerging as promising delivery vehicles for cancer diagnostics and chemotherapies due to their unique properties, including, remarkable cell membrane penetrability, high drug-carrying capacities, pH-dependent ther ...

The electrochemical stability of ionic liquids based on the 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium EMIM cation and three different anions, dicyanoamide (N(CN)(2)), tricyanomethanide (C(CN)(3)) and tetracyanoborate (B(CN)(4)), has been investigate ...
