Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR) is promoted by ionic liquid (IL) co-catalysts, and several mechanisms have been proposed to explain their role. Due to the complexity of the CO2RR and the limited number of active IL co-catalysts, a conse ...

Lysozyme is one of the most important anti-bacterial effectors in the innate immune system of animals. Besides its direct antibacterial enzymatic activity, lysozyme displays other biological properties, pointing toward a significant anti-inflammatory effec ...

Recent years have witnessed considerable progress in the development of solar cells based on lead halide perovskite materials. However, their intrinsic instability remains a limitation. In this context, the interplay between the thermal degradation and the ...

Combining CO2-chemistry with biomass conversion allows renewable polymeric materials including polycarbonates and polyhydroxyurethanes (PHUs) to be generated. The demand for robust materials with modular properties that can be prepared on an industrial sca ...

The orthogonal structure of the widely used hole transporting material (HTM) 2,2 ',7,7 '-tetrakis(N, N-di-p-methoxyphenylamino)-9,9 '-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) imparts isotropic conductivity and excellent film-forming capability. However, inherently w ...

Water electrolysis is an advanced and sustainable energy conversion technology used to generate H-2. However, the low efficiency of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) hampers the overall water-splitting catalytic perf ...

Surface passivation has been widely employed to suppress non-radiative charge recombination and prevent interfacial charge accumulation in perovskite photovoltaics. In this report, carbazole modified with ammonium iodide connected via alkyl chains of diffe ...

gamma-Valerolactone (GVL) is a key downstream product of renewable biomass with enormous potential for the manufacture of advanced biofuels, bio-based chemicals, materials or for its direct use as an additive to gasoline and is obtained by the hydrogenatio ...

The synthesis of fuels from CO2 has made tremendous progress in recent years, although practical applications remain limited. Herein, we describe a cyclic process that produces MeOH from CO(2)via formamide intermediates, which are initially reduced using N ...

Currently, the full potential of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is limited by chargecarrier recombination owing to imperfect passivation methods. Here, the recombination loss mechanisms owing to the interfacial energy offset and defects are quantified. The ...

Hydrogen is one of the essential reactants in the chemical industry, though its generation from renewable sources and storage in a safe and reversible manner remain challenging. Formic acid (HCO2H or FA) is a promising source and storage material in this r ...

Included in the dataset are detailed information into the crystallography, morphology, electronic properties, (photo)electrochemical and carrier dynamics of both single-crystal Cu2O thin films and polycrystalline Cu2O with favored crystal orientations. Mul ...

N-formylation of amines with CO2 is base-catalyzed and studies of salt catalysts reveal that the reaction is efficiently catalyzed by "free" floating anions of high basicity, as represented in the cover image. More information can be found in the Full Pape ...

Hydrogenolysis of C-O bonds is a highly challenging reaction with the most efficient catalysts based on bimetallic assemblies. Systematic studies to identify the optimum metal combination have not been performed and, therefore, we designed a method to scre ...

The mechanism of formation of rhodium nanocubes in the presence of tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide and polyvinylpyrrolidone in ethylene glycol was studied in situ by XAFS, in conjunction with other ex situ techniques including MALDI-TOF MS, XRD, TEM, a ...

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were applied to the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). Choline-based DESs represent a non-toxic and inexpensive alternative to room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) as additives to the system or as electrolyte. F ...

We have developed a simple and quant. explanation for the relatively low melting temps. of ionic liqs. (ILs). The basic concept was to assess the Gibbs free energy of fusion (ΔfusG) for the process IL(s) -> IL(l), which relates to the m.p. ...

Examining the electrocatalytic performance of naturally-occurring metallic minerals is of interest for energy conversion applications given their unique atomic composition and formation history. Herein, we report the electrocatalytic function of an iron-ba ...

In homogeneous catalysis, the main emphasis on improving catalyst performance (rate, yield and selectivity) is directed towards manipulation of the ligands. The steric and electronic effects of ligands are extremely well understood and the rational design ...

Platform chemicals are usually derived from petrochemical feedstocks. A sustainable alternative commences with lignocellulosic biomass, a renewable feedstock, but one that is highly challenging to process. Ionic liquids (ILs) are able to solubilize biomass ...
