COVID-19 is caused by the infection of the lungs by SARS-CoV-2. Monoclonal antibodies, such as sotrovimab, showed great efficiency in neutralizing the virus before its internalization by lung epithelial cells. However, parenteral routes are still the prefe ...

In the field of gene therapy, chitosan (CS) gained interest for its promise as a non-viral DNA vector. However, commercial sources of CS lack precise characterization and do not generally reach sufficient solubility in aqueous media for in vitro and in viv ...

Chitosan (CS) is a natural biopolymer that has gained great interest in many research fields due to its promising biocompatibility, biodegradability, and favorable mechanical properties. The versatility of this low-cost polymer allows for a variety of chem ...

(1R)-Normetanephrine is the natural stereoisomeric substrate for sulfotransferase 1A3 (SULT1A3)-catalyzed sulfonation. Nothing appears known on the enantioselectivity of the reaction despite its potential significance in the metabolism of adrenergic amines ...

Epilepsy affects more than 40 million people worldwide, constituting one of the most debilitating disorders of the Central Nervous System (CNS). It results from an imbalance in the electrical activity of neurons, which is primarily mediated by calcium ions ...

As previously demonstrated by Thurber and Tycko, the peak position of Br-79 in potassium bromide (KBr) allows one to determine the temperature of a spinning sample. We propose to adapt the original design by using a compact KBr tablet placed at the bottom ...

The production of hydrogel microspheres (MS) for cell immobilization, maintaining the favorable properties of alginate gels but presenting enhanced performance in terms of in vivo durability and physical properties, is desirable to extend the therapeutic p ...

Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems have the potential for increasing the efficiency of chemotherapeutics by enhancing the drug accumulation at specific target sites, therebyreducing adverse side effects and mitigating patient acquired resistance. In ...

Two novel types of hydrogel microspheres (MS) are presented. First, one-component microspheres (1-comMS) were produced from sodium alginate (Na-alg) equipped with thiolfunctionalized hydroxyl groups. The functionalization pathway included the conversion of ...

Fuel theft poses a significant threat to economic stability, undermining governments revenues and global security while benefiting criminal networks. Combating this issue requires coordinated efforts including innovative technological solutions to secure t ...

Bismuth ferrite (BFO) harmonic nanoparticles (NPs) display high nonlinear optical efficiency and excellent biocompatibility profile which make them attractive for the development of diagnostic applications as contrast agents. In this study, we present a ge ...

The combined and ordered sequential action of glycosidases and glycosyltransferases in mammalian cell compartments leads to the addition of defined glycans to proteins and lipids. Altered glycosylation patterns, neoexpression, underexpression or overexpres ...

Islet transplantation is a promising approach for the treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently, clinical islet transplantation is limited by allo - and autoimmunity that may cause partial or complete loss of islet function within a short period of tim ...

Nonlinear optical nanocrystals have been recently introduced as a promising alternative to fluorescent probes for multi-photon microscopy. We present for the first time a complete survey of the properties of the different nanomaterials proposed to date, de ...

Surface-based biosensors have proven to be of particular interest in the monitoring of human pathogens by means of their distinct nucleic acid sequences. Genosensors rely on targeted gene/DNA probe hybridization at the surface of a physical transducer and ...

Background: Total (i.e. free + sulfated) metanephrines in plasma is a biomarker for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma. Sulfated metanephrines must be completely deconjugated by perchloric acid hydrolysis or sulfatase treatment prior to analyt ...

Bone marrow is currently being considered as an alternative site for pancreatic islet transplantation. The goal of the present review is to report preclinical and clinical studies taking advantage of this new implantation site. Preclinical studies in mice ...

Harmonic nanoparticles (HNPs) have emerged as appealing exogenous probes for optical bioimaging due to their distinctive features such as long-term photostability and spectral flexibility, allowing multiphoton excitation in the classical (NIR-I) and extend ...

Many biologically active peptides are protected from general proteolytic degradation by evolutionary conserved prolines (Pro), due to conformational constraints imposed by the Pro residue. Thus the biological importance of prolyl-specific peptidases points ...

Background: Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) enhance viability and function of islets of Langerhans. We aimed to examine the interactions between human MSC and human islets of Langerhans that influence the function of islets. Methods: Human MSC ...
