This thesis presents a complete methodology for the digital calibration of analog circuits. It shows how to relax the extreme design constraints in analog circuits, allowing the realization of high-precision systems even with low-performance components. In ...

This paper presents a modeling strategy to simulate 2D propagation of electrical perturbations induced by direct biasing of substrate junctions. Identifying parasitic substrate devices such as bipolar transistors reaches rapidly its limit when multiple cur ...

The state-of-the-art mass sensing so far has been rather developed along the resolution axis, reaching atomic-scale detection, than into the direction of high-speed. This paper reports a novel self-calibrating technique, making high-speed inertial mass sen ...

Contactless current measurement based on Hall-effect sensors can be performed in either closed-or open-loop configuration. In this paper an open-loop sensor system with a current-mode output is described. The system measures the magnetic field induced arou ...

This paper presents the design flow from system-level specifications to transistor-level design for three different fully-differential amplifiers composing the first and the second integrator of a second-order hybrid multi-bit ΔΣ modulator. The circuit-lev ...

This paper presents a Hall sensor microsystem output and sensitivity calibration targeting low drift (

This paper presents a solar charger ASIC for Nickelbased (NiCd or NiMH) batteries. The system is fully integrated and no external component is needed. The ASIC includes a voltage reference, a low-impedance switch, an oscillator, a poweron reset, and a digi ...

This paper presents a new Procedural Analog Design tool called PAD. It is a chart-based design environment dedicated to the design of analog circuits aiming to optimise design and quality by finding good tradeoffs. This interactive tool allows step-by-step design of analog cells by using guidelines for each analog topology. At each step, the user modifies interactively one subset of design parameters and observes the effect on other circuit parameters. At the end, an optimised design is ready for simulation

Despite an evermore complete plethora of complex domain-specific semiempirical models, no succinct recipe for large-scale carbon nanotube electromechanical systems design has been formulated. To combine the benefits of these highly sensitive miniaturized m ...

To perform a current sensing in capacitorless 1-transistor (IT) DRAMs on SOI, we have developed a sensing scheme with automatic reference generation. The reference current is generated by an adjustable current source. The electrical calibration of the refe ...

This paper presents a new technique for continuously calibrating the sensitivity of a current measurement microsystem based on a Hall magnetic field sensor. An integrated reference coil generates a magnetic field for calibration. Using a variant of the cho ...

If an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is used within a ΣΔ converter such that the loop filter is mixed signal, then the ADC does not need to have the full resolution of the ΣΔ converter, and its input values will not be uniformly distributed over the input range. In this paper, we argue that the best input distribution to use as a general model is the maximumentropy distribution (for location parameters: the Gaussian distribution). We then describe an externally linear ADC with non-linearly spaced decisio

This paper presents a modeling strategy to simulate the propagation of electrical perturbations induced by direct biasing of substrate junctions. Usually, this is done by identifying parasitic substrate devices such as bipolar transistors. However, mapping ...

Presented is a transistor-level implementation of a floating and tunable CMOS active inductor. It is based on the classical gyrator-C topology and is enhanced by adding an internal offset reduction mechanism to guarantee functionality also for unbalanced D ...

This paper presents a new modeling methodology accounting for generation and propagation of minority carriers that can be used directly in circuit-level simulators in order to estimate coupled parasitic currents. The method is based on a new compact model ...

This paper presents a MEMS-based 5th-order Delta Sigma capacitive accelerometer. The Delta Sigma loop is implemented in mixed signal, the global 5th-order filter having a 2nd-order analog and a 3rd-order digital part. The system can be used with a wide range of sensors, because the mixed-signal front-end is programmable. The developed ASIC comprises a voltage-mode preamplifier, two parallel demodulators implementing CDS, and a 7-bit internally non-linear flash ADC. The latter drives a 3rd-order digital filt

This paper presents a methodology for digitally calibrating analog circuits and systems. Based on the detection of an imperfection by a simple comparator, a successive approximations algorithm tunes a compensation current. The latter is generated by a sub- ...

This paper presents an integrated Hall sensor microsystem with continuous gain calibration and a current-mode back-end. The integrated system includes a Hall sensor with internal biasing, a fully differential front-end, a preamplifier chain, a voltage-to-c ...

is paper presents a voltage-to-current converter as a current-mode output buffering stage for sensor interfaces. The converter can be used in any microsystem needing a current output. It is presented here in the context of a Hall sensor microsystem. The system is fully differential with an output stage that converts a discrete input voltage into a continuous current. The Hall sensor microsystem, using the voltage-to-current back-end, has been fabricated and measured in a 0.35 μm CMOS technology. The entire

A novel DAC architecture based on a sub-binary radix converter is presented. By calibrating digitally the nonlinear sub-binary converter, it is possible to use it as a high-precision, high-resolution digital-to-analog converter. The analog part of the new DAC doesn't need precise components. It becomes thus possible to build high-performance DACs on a small area, neither requiring aggressive analog design nor highly matched components. By relaxing the constraints on the analog part, this new topology is ver
