As a part of 2016 Physionet/CinC callenge, this work aims at the detection of abnormal phonocardiogram (PCG) recordings. Heart sound signal analysis has been an active research topic over the past decades with various studies such as heart sound segmentati ...

In this work, we present a joint source-filter optimization approach for separating voiced speech into vocal tract (VT) and voice source components. The presented method is pitch-synchronous and thereby exhibits a high robustness against vocal jitter, shim ...

Several organization indices have been used to predict the outcome of stepwise catheter ablation (step-CA) in long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation (LS-pAF), however with limited success. Our study aims at developing innovative indices from baseline ...

Aims While successful termination by pacing of organized atrial tachycardias has been observed in patients, single site rapid pacing has not yet led to conclusive results for the termination of atrial fibrillation (AF). The purpose of this study was to eva ...

Brain-computer interface (BCI) systems allow the user to interact with a computer by merely thinking. Successful BCI operation depends on the continuous adaptation of the system to the user and on the user motivation. This paper presents a model of continuous adaptation using kernel based dynamic data characterization. Additionally, the adaptive capabilities of the brain are engaged by providing feedback to the user who can modulate her mental activity so as to make the BCI accomplish her intents.

Purpose Repeated-sprint training in hypoxia (RSH) was recently shown to improve repeated-sprint ability (RSA) in cycling. This phenomenon is likely to reflect fiber type-dependent, compensatory vasodilation, and therefore, our hypothesis was that RSH is ev ...

RR-interval time series often present impulses corresponding to short-duration increases or decreases in the heart rate, most probably due to bursts in autonomic activity. The time-domain heartrate variability index pNN50 is obviously linked to these spikes. As linear filtering is not appropriate for the extraction of these spikes, we developed a nonlinear algorithm for this task. In this study we demonstrate the potential of this approach to assess caffeine-induced changes in the autonomic tone, and discus

Rapid pacing of atrial fibrillation (AF) can induce local capture of the atrial tissue and preliminary studies showed that the septum area was the only location allowing simultaneous capture of both atria from a single site. The present model-based study investigated the impact of Bachmann’s Bundle (BB), considered to play a fundamental role in interatrial conduction, on the ability to capture AF during rapid pacing from the septum.

This paper presents a simulation study on the identifiability of multiple reentrant circuits on the basis of the vectorcardiogram. The methods involved include an advanced tracking of the basic frequencies of the dominant rotors and a supporting identifica ...

The goal of the Computers in Cardiology / Physionet Challenge 2009 is to predict which patients will experience acute hypotensive episode within a forecast window of one hour. In our study, statistically robust features extracted from the supplied training ...

Introduction: Rapid pacing of atrial fibrillation (AF) can induce local capture of the atrial tissue and preliminary studies showed that the septum area was the only location allowing capture of both atria from a single site. The present model-based study investigated the impact of heterogeneities in atrial substrate on the ability to capture AF during rapid pacing from the septum.

We present a model-based systematic study of antitachycardia pacing protocols applied to atrial fibrillation, focusing on the ability to achieve and maintain capture during pacing, as a function of both pacing site and period. We observed that pacing sites ...

The present study aimed to compare sleep disordered breathing during live high-train low (LHTL) altitude camp using normobaric hypoxia (NH) and hypobaric hypoxia (HH). Sixteen highly trained triathletes completed two 18-day LHTL camps in a crossover design ...

Wearable devices are an unobtrusive, cost-effective means of continuous ambulatory monitoring of chronic cardiovascular diseases. However, on these resource-constrained systems, electrocardiogram (ECG) processing algorithms must consume minimal power and m ...
