Spectral analysis of atrial signals has been used to identify regions of interest in atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the relationship to the atrial substrate is unclear. In this study, we compare regions with dominant frequency (DF), simultaneously dete ...

This paper introduces a new method for QT-interval estimation. It consists in a batch processing mode of the improved Woody's method. Performance of this methodology is evaluated using synthetic data. In parallel, a new model of QT-interval dynamics behavi ...

Heart rate variability (HRV) is commonly used to diagnose overreaching and monitor athletes’ responses to training. Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) is modified by changes in training load and might be another means to detect overreaching. The goal of this stu ...

In this paper we propose a fast novel non-linear filtering method named Relative-Energy (Rel-En), for robust short-term event extraction from biomedical signals. We developed an algorithm that extracts short- and long-term energies in a signal and provides ...

Background: Cerebral autoregulation (CA) is a protective mechanism which maintains the steadiness of the cerebral blood flow (CBF) through a broad range of systemic blood pressure (BP). Acute hypertension has been shown to reduce the cerebrovascular adapta ...

Space missions are often equipped with several high definition sensors that can autonomously collect a potentially enormous amount of data. The bottleneck in retrieving these often precious datasets is the onboard data storing capability and the communication bandwidth, which limit the amount of data that can be sent back to Earth. In this paper, we propose a method based on the analysis of brain electrical activity to identify the scientific interest of experts towards a given image in a large set of image

Due to their transient nature, spontaneous terminations of atrial fibrillation (AF) are difficult to investigate. Apparently, confounding experimental findings about the time scale of this phenomenon have been reported, with values ranging from 1 s to 1 mi ...

Purpose: The timing of bipolar intracardiac electrograms (EGMs) during atrial fibrillation (AF) reflects the dynamics of AF wavelets. The extent of synchronization between EGMs is an indirect measure of AF spatial organization. Our study intends to determi ...

As part of the 2015 PhysioNet/CinC Challenge, this work aims at lowering the number of false alarms, which are a persistent concern in the intensive care unit. The multimodal database consists of 1250 life-threatening alarm recordings, each categorized as ...

This paper is part of a series titled “AltitudeOmics” that together represent a group of studies that explore the basic mechanisms controlling human acclimatization to hypoxia. This study aims at analyzing the baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) at sea level, in acute and chronic hypoxia and test whether hyperoxia reverts the hypoxic effects. Twenty-one young, healthy subjects underwent experimental trials near sea level, and two times at high altitude. BRS was calculated using the sequence method, spectral method

Measuring the instantaneous frequency of a signal rapidly and accurately is essential in many applications. However, the instantaneous frequency by definition is a parameter difficult to determine. Fourier-based methods introduce estimation delays as compu ...

Cardiac arrhythmias present a significant global health concern. The advent of wearable devices utilizing photoplethysmography gives the opportunity to screen large populations, hence offering the potential for early detection of pathological rhythms and r ...

Introduction: Electrical heterogeneity in the atria has been consistently linked with the initiation and perpetuation of atrial fibrillation (AF). The present model-based study investigated the contribution of action potential duration (APD) heterogeneitie ...

Stepwise catheter ablation (step-CA) can terminate long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation (LS-pAF) within the left atrium (LA) or may require additional right atrial (RA) ablation. Intracardiac organization indices such as AF cycle length (AFCL) have ...

The research discussed in this article is motivated by the search for an optimal classification of the different types of atrial fibrillation (AF) on the basis of recorded atrial signals. This would facilitate the selection of an optimal therapy. This arti ...

The detection of intracardiac activities is a major issue in the processing of atrial fibrillation signals. we evaluate a method based on mathematical morphology with an adaptive structuring element in order to extract the atrial activations from intracard ...

Neuronal oscillations are an important aspect of EEG recordings. These oscillations are supposed to be involved in several cognitive mechanisms. For instance, oscillatory activity is considered a key component for the top-down control of perception. Howeve ...

QRS complex detection in the electrocardiogram (ECG) has been extensively investigated over the last two decades. Still, some issues remain pending due to the diversity of QRS complex shapes and various perturbations, notably baseline drift. This is especi ...

Feature selection is a machine learning technique that has many interesting applications in the area of brain- computer interfaces (BCIs). Here we show how automatic relevance determination (ARD), which is a Bayesian feature selection technique, can be app ...

Imaging photoplethysmography (iPPG) has emerged as a contactless heart-rate monitoring technique. As the respiratory activity modulates the heart rate, we investigate the accuracy of iPPG in conveying the inter-beat variation due to the respiratory modulation of the heart rate. The instantaneous respiratory rate was estimated in real-time from the iPPG inter-beat variations with an algorithm based on a bank of short FIR notch filters. The comparison of the iPPG-based respiratory rate estimates to ECG-based
