We hereby present a study whose aim is to evaluate the efficiency and flexibility of virtual reality as a therapeutic tool in the confines of a social phobia behavioural therapeutic program. Our research protocol, accepted by the ethical commission of the ...

In this paper we propose a new method for rendering crowds of virtual humans with dynamicallydeformed skeletons with levels of detail using two simple caching schemes for animations and geometry. Weshow how the virtual heritage project ERATO pushed for the ...

Finding the range of motion for the human joints is a popular method for diagnosing joint diseases. By current technology, it is more trustable and easier to find the range of motion by employing computer based models of the human tissues. In this paper we ...

A new methodology is proposed for creating and animating the human body based on human anatomical structure. The layered model includes skeleton, bones, muscles and skin. It uses ellipsoids for modeling and deforming muscles and automatically determines the skin by cross-section contours. As an example, we present the muscular deformations for a human arm

Interactive control of virtual characters through full-body movement requires accurately reproducing a performer's motion while accounting for surrounding obstacles. The authors' approach, based on a prioritized inverse kinematics solver, satisfies marker ...

Hip mechanical simulation for estimating pressures within the soft tissues during the loads and motions of daily activities is a common approach to investigate hip joint pathology. Many computational approaches estimate the pressure and contact pressures v ...

This paper describes a system with several fixed cameras that provide Third-Person Perspective (3PP) to the video-through HMD of the user. Once done, our system uses an algorithm to make intelligent switches between the different cameras in order to provid ...

The simulation of the dynamics of human societies is not an easy task, and we propose a bottom-up approach, which consists in defining the human entity as a single, autonomous and independent entity (called an agent), and then immersing many of them in a common environment to let them interact and co-operate as the environment evolves. To achieve our goal of creating virtual human societies, we try to extend the concepts we have developed for crowd simulations to encompass more autonomy at the level of indi
