Isolators, or optical diodes, are devices enabling unidirectional light propagation by using non-reciprocal optical materials, namely materials able to break Lorentz reciprocity. The realization of isolators at terahertz frequencies is a very important ope ...

In this paper, the RF Breakdown power threshold in arbitrary complex components based on rectangular waveguide technology is investigated. In particular, multipactor (in vacuum) and corona discharge (close to the Paschen curve minimum) are analyzed. The ob ...

A broad bandwidth and high gain rectangular patch antenna was specifically designed in this paper using planar-patterned metamaterial concepts. Based on an ordinary patch antenna, the antenna has isolated triangle gaps and crossed strip-line gaps etched on ...

The abrupt metal-insulator transition in vanadium dioxide (VO2) offers novel performance and functionality for beyond CMOS switches, enabling simultaneous high ON current and ultra-steep subthreshold slope with low temperature dependence. We developed a fi ...

In this article we make an analogy between Electromagnetic and Acoustic transmission-line modelling. Then we use this to introduce acoustic transmission-line metamaterials and finally we introduce the acoustic leaky-wave antenna on the basis of previous st ...

The equivalent admittance of a 2-D array of printed metallic patches/apertures is obtained here by extending a precedent equivalent circuit approach reported by some of the authors. The goal of the present extension is to cover more complex situations like ...

A method to design planar multilayer meander-line polarizers is given. The proposed procedure is based on transmission line circuit theory and on full-wave unit cell analysis in frequency domain. The hybrid combination of those two techniques paves the way ...

Sommerfeld-integrals (SIs) are ubiquitous in the analysis of problems involving antennas and scatterers embedded in planar multilayered media. It is well known that the oscillating and slowly decaying nature of their integrands makes the numerical evaluati ...

The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology allows to construct several types of commonly used antennas in a planar way. However, frequency limitations associated to commercial substrates appear in the implementation of certain types of antennas, e ...

In this paper, we study the multiple scattering by electrically small (the radius of the cylinder is much smaller than the wavelength) plasmonic nanocylinders near surface plasmon resonance. The cylinders are assumed to be identical in dimension and compos ...

We propose to model periodic structures by equivalent multiconductor transmission lines (MTLs). The developed technique is based on a multimodal representation of the periodic structure unit cell, such as required for periodically loaded MTLs and periodica ...

The aim of this paper is to determine the dielectric characteristics of tropical wood species at microwaves frequency in order to use them as planar antenna substrate. The measurements have been done on dried wood in the frequency range 8.2-12.4 GHz The su ...

In this study, human exposure to close-range wireless power transfer (WPT) systems operating in the frequency range 0.1-10 MHz with coil diameters up to 150 mm are investigated. Approximation formulae, which include scaling factors derived from numerical simulations that take variations of complex human anatomies into consideration, are proposed to conservatively estimate human exposure with respect to the most authoritative exposure guidelines. The approximation has been verified for two precommercial prot

This paper presents a numerical and experimental verification of an approximate but efficient integral equation technique for the scattering by apertures in conducting planes with finite thicknesses. The approach is based on a perturbation method and modified Green's functions that take into account the finite metallization thickness. The computational effort and time needed for solving the problem are the same as in zero-thickness case. When compared to full-wave cavity treatment of thick apertures, the me

This paper proposes a numerical assessment of brain stroke follow-up via differential Microwave Imaging. The aim is to follow the evolution of the patient’s stroke growth and location, in order to support decisions in the clinical treatment. We present a f ...

A review is presented of the most effective methods for the computation of Sommerfeld integral tails. Such integrals, which are often oscillatory, singular and divergent, commonly arise in layered media Green functions. The mathematical foundations of vari ...

This paper presents a wideband circularly polarized planar antenna element for both K and Ka bands. The proposed solution is composed by several thin layers of dielectric substrate that allocate two circular stacked patches, a crossed-slot and two fork-sha ...

In this paper a detailed mathematical procedure is described to evaluate modal scattering parameters conventionally defined in planar multilayered structures excited by wave ports. Combined Field Integral Equation technique is implemented and solved using ...
