Rao-Wilton-Glisson basis functions provide one of the most popular and versatile tools for the numerical solution of integral equations in Electromagnetics. They are deeply connected with the problem of calculating the electrostatic potential and field of uniform surface charge distributions existing on polygonal supports. This tutorial reviews the history and relevance of such a calculation, which has been attempted since the 19th century and continues to be the object of new developments, where frequently

The Sommerfeld halfspace problem is revisited allowing for multilayer and plasmonic media, with a focus on the surface field computation. Alternative field representations are discussed and an improved Sommerfeld-Norton groundwave formula is developed. The ...

We studied the nonlinear optical properties of single layer graphene using high terahertz (THz) fields. With the use of a back gate and cooling down the sample to cryogenic temperatures we are able to spectrally probe the nonlinear THz properties of intrin ...

This paper proposes an efficient modeling technique for transient electromagnetic analysis of a rectangular metallic enclosure with multiple apertures, using the surface equivalent principle (SEP) and integral equations. The SEP is used to replace the aper ...

The accuracy of the first-order multiplicative (Ott-Clemmow) and additive (van der Waerden) modified saddle point integration methods for the Sommerfeld problem of a vertical Hertzian dipole over a lossy half-space is investigated using two theoretically e ...

In this paper the authors present a novel power divider architecture intended to be used with the Suspended Strip Line (SSL) transmission line. The new antenna array systems, that are designed to work in the millimetre wave ranges, are suffering from the l ...

Transmit array design is more challenging for dualband operation than for single band, due to the independent 360 degrees phase wrapping jumps needed at each band when large electrical length compensation is involved. This happens when aiming at large gain ...

An iterative procedure for the synthesis of uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. Specifically, the goal is to optimize the locations of a fixed number of array elements with known excitations in order to synthesize narrow-beam low-sidelobe p ...

The concept and analysis of a terahertz (THz) frequency-reconfigurable antenna using graphene are presented. The antenna exploits dipole-like plasmonic resonances that can be frequency-tuned on large range via the electric field effect in a graphene stack. In addition to efficient dynamic control, the proposed approach allows high miniaturization and good direct matching with continuous wave THz sources. A qualitative model is used to explain the excellent impedance stability under reconfiguration. These in

The EU Framework Programmes (FPs) foster the collaboration and the research structuring across Europe. In FP6, the Antenna Centre of Excellence (ACE) is a Network of Excellence project created to improve the efficiency of antenna research in Europe. Starti ...

Folded substrate integrated waveguide (FSIW) has been proposed for further size reduction, while keeping the advantages of traditional SIW. FSIW-based horn antennas are very promising in millimeter wave applications. To improve the bandwidth and efficiency ...

Recently the orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing scheme has been proposed to increase supposedly without limit the channel capacity between a transmitter and a receiver nodes communicating in line of sight. A controversy arose about the far-field e ...

This paper presents a modified methodology to compute the phase center of planar antennas. It is especially well suited for low-profile geometries without axial symmetry that are currently being proposed as feeder systems for Ka-band lens antennas. By taki ...

Graphene quantum capacitors (GQC) are demonstrated to be enablers of radio-frequency (RF) functions through voltage-tuning of their capacitance. We show that GQC complements MEMS and MOSFETs in terms of performance for high frequency analog applications an ...

We present our recent work on a one-dimensional acoustic negative refractive index metamaterial based on the concept of dual transmission line extensively investigated in microwave engineering. The proposed structure consists of an acoustic waveguide perio ...

One of the most hindering limitations in the simulation of a realistic biological system is the complexity of the model which may easily lead to a very heavy computational burden. This may seriously question the possibility of optimizing system parameters ...

In this abstract we present a one-dimensional leakywave antenna fed from two ports that provides a dual-polarized radiation pattern. It is the first time that dual-polarized radiation is achieved from a single one-dimensional leaky-wave radiating aperture. ...

This communication presents a review of the developments carried out towards the electromagnetic modeling, design and practical implementation of the basic building block of a planar antenna for the reception of Ku-band satellite broadcasting services from user terminals on board automotive platforms. The antenna is conceived as a low profile phased array with fully electronic beam steering and polarization tracking capabilities. This phased array is intended to address the market of low cost consumer appli

In recent years, there is a considerable and growing interest in developing fast integral equation methods for solving Maxwell’s equations. Volume integral equations are a versatile technique to model inhomogeneous scattering objects. Numerical tests show ...

Recent studies have focused on developing metamaterials for acoustic applications, inspired by electromagnetics concepts. The acoustic leaky-wave antenna is amongst the most investigated. Despite the unfavourable properties of conventional matter and struc ...
