Ka-band satellite technology has been drawing growing interest from public transportation industry to military applications, due to its advantages of higher speed links, smaller terminals and reduced costs. These well-recognized characteristics have also b ...

The potential of graphene for photonic applications was evidenced by recent demonstrations of modulators, polarization rotators and isolators. These promising yet preliminary results raise crucial questions: what is the optimal performance achievable by mo ...

The problem of a vertical Hertzian dipole radiating in the presence of a lossy conducting halfspace, first formally solved by Sommerfeld in 1909, is revisited. Using rigorous operator theory concepts and the characteristic Green function procedure, alterna ...

The classical Sommerfeld half-space problem is revisited, with generalizations to multilayer and plasmonic media and focus on the surface field computation. A new ab initio solution is presented for an arbitrarily oriented Hertzian dipole radiating in the ...

Fully numerical schemes are presented for high precision computations of the four-dimensional integrals arising in Galerkin surface integral equation formulations. More specifically, the focal point of this paper is the singular integrals for coincident, e ...

This paper reviews two simple numerical algorithms particularly useful in Computational ElectroMagnetics (CEM): the Weighted Averages (WA) algorithm and the Double Exponential (DE) quadrature. After a short historical introduction and an elementary descrip ...

The electromagnetic field transmitted by a subwavelength circular aperture in a perfectly conducting screen of infinitesimal thickness and illuminated by an obliquely incident plane wave is analyzed based on the Bethe-Bouwkamp quasi-static model of the field in the aperture plane. The problem is formulated in the spectral domain and the solution is expressed in terms of a minimum number of one-dimensional Hankel-transform integrals involving products of Bessel functions and spherical Bessel functions. An ef

Highly accurate and efficient cubatures based on the double exponential quadrature rules are presented for the computation of weakly singular integrals arising in Galerkin mixed potential integral equation formulations. Due to their unique ability to handl ...

An alternative analytical approach to calculate the weakly singular free-space static potential integral associated to uniform sources is presented. Arbitrary oriented flat polygons are considered as integration domains. The technique stands out by its mat ...

In this paper we propose a circular leaky wave-antenna with omnidirectional radiation in the H-plane. The design utilizes double-layered strips to create an end-fire antenna. A linear tapering of the stripes in the design endows the antenna with a 27% impe ...

This paper is intended for teachers and students dealing with antenna engineering. Graphical tools have historically been used for illustrating many basic features of radiation patterns, such as the position and number of secondary lobes, null angles, and ...

Cloaking using a volumetric structure composed of stacked two-dimensional transmission-line networks is verified with numerical simulations and measurements. The measurements are done in a waveguide, in which an array of metal cylinders is inserted causing ...

A point-wise approach that can be used efficiently in the numerical solution of Electric Field Integral Equations is introduced. The algorithm is based on the so-called magic distance concept, which defines exactly the point-to-point equivalent of a four-d ...

This paper presents the details of development and computer implementation of Combined Field Integral Equation (CFIE) technique used in the framework of Method of Moments to address the problem of simulating fine slots appearing in grounded screens embedde ...

This paper demonstrates how an already developed finite element code for solving electromagnetic problems can be manipulated and simply extended so as to investigate complicated corona breakdowns. A safe criterion based on the eigenvalue analysis is used i ...

In this communication, original analytical expressions for the quadruple static potential singular integrals on rectangular domains are presented. These integrals can appear when the method of moments is used to solve the mixed potential integral equation ...

A method to synthesize shaped beams with antenna arrays is presented. Specifically, the element excitations are determined such that the array radiates a power pattern that approximates a desired shape. To efficiently solve this problem, an iterative algor ...

This paper presents a method for the analysis of planar multilayered waveguide-fed antennas. The method combines mixed-potential integral equations (for laterally open regions) and modal field integral equations (for laterally closed regions) with a seamle ...

In this communication, the European (FP6) Network of Excellence ACE (Antenna Center of Excellence) is presented. The main achievements are discussed both at the level of Joint Research & Delta Research Activities, centered on specific research topics (vertical activities) and at the level of horizontal activities, which arc intended to structure and to integrate European research and to provide efficient training, education, dissemination and transfer of results.

This paper describes an algorithm to calculate a large number of roots of the cross-product of Bessel functions and of their first derivatives. The algorithm initially finds the roots of the zeroth order using an auxiliary function that exhibits the same r ...
