Early stages of hot-electron thermalization in small gold nanoparticles wrapped in an adsorbates shell have been investigated by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Type-I hot electrons thermalize in 800 fs (to form type-II hot electron) either ...

Titanium oxide (Ti(O)) xerogel films functionalized by protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) and ferrocene carboxylic acid (FCA) were deposited on indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes following a sol–gel synthesis. PPIX and FCA were first complexed to titanium oxide precu ...

Electrocatalysis of water oxidation was achieved using fluorinated tin oxide (FTO) electrodes modified with layer-by-layer deposited films consisting of bilayers of negatively charged citrate-stabilized IrO2 NPs and positively charged poly(diallyldimethyla ...

Herein is reported the determination of the Gibbs energy of dioxouranium (UO22+) transfer across an interface between two immiscible electrolytic solutions (ITIES), water and 1,2-dichloroethane, that was supported at a 25 mu m diameter microhole, by means ...

Social, economic, and political pressures are causing a shift in the global energy mix, with a preference toward renewable energy sources. In order to realize widespread implementation of these resources, large-scale storage of renewable energy is needed. Among the proposed energy storage technologies, redox flow batteries offer many unique advantages. The primary limitation of these systems, however, is their limited energy density which necessitates very large installations. In order to enhance the energy

By hyphenating inkjet printing and flash light irradiation, Ni- and NiFe-nano-electrocatalysts of diameters below 2.5 nm with ultralow loadings below 2 µg·cm–2 are synthesized. To achieve this, nanoliter ink volumes containing Ni and Fe chlorides as cataly ...

A new approach for large-scale fabrication of miniaturized, reliable and planar solid-state reference electrodes on flexible substrates is presented. Inkjet printing technique was used for the fabrication of conductive path and silver patterns that were ch ...

Herein, we present the intact cell matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) for the fingerprinting of human melanoma cancer cell lines grown on aluminium foil. To perform the MALDI-MS assay, melanoma cells were cultured on a flat and thin foil, which was directly transferred to the target plate of MALDI-MS for analysis. The influence of a wide range of cell fixation protocols (i.e. formalin-based and alcohol-based methods) and MALDI matrices on the obtained characteristic spe

The Off-Gel™ technology was recently described for protein fractionation in a solution placed on top of an immobilized pH gradient gel. In addition, this process was found to remove salts from the biological samples to analyze. This desalting effect is stu ...

This paper presents a microfluidic push-pull probe for scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) consisting of a working microelectrode, an integrated counter/reference electrode and two microchannels for pushing and pulling an electrolyte solution to and ...

Molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide reduction by 1,2-diferrocenylethane (DFcE) was investigated at a polarized water/1,2-dichloroethane (W/DCE) interface. The overall reaction points to a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism, where the firs ...

Photo-ionic cells convert solar energy into redox fuels. Unlike in photovoltaic devices where the photo-induced charge transfer reactions occur at an electrode, the photoreaction takes place in one bulk solution of a biphasic liquid-liquid system, and the ...

Most syntheses of thiolate-protected metal nanoparticles (NPs) include a thermochemical step in which the as-prepared, polydisperse NPs are transformed to a narrower size distribution in a poorly understood process known as digestive ripening (DR). Previou ...

A porphyrin ‘‘Mille-Feuilles” photo-electrode is fabricated layer-by-layer by deposition of anionic [zinc meso-tetrakis(p-sulfonato phenyl) porphyrin]4- (ZnTPPS4−) and positively charged polypeptides on a 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid-modified gold electrode ...

A fountain pen probe has been developed to extend the scope of scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) experiments to dry surfaces. The fountain pen is fabricated by UV-photoablation of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film and consists on one side of ...

When two electrolyte solutions of different temperature are placed in contact, a thermal diffusion potential (TDP) is established. The phenomenon is studied numerically using finite element simulations of the temperature distribution within a hydrodynamic cell. Experimentally, the hydrovoltaic flow cell is used to demonstrate how a temperature difference can induce redox reactions at electrodes placed in the two liquids in order to extract a current continuously in an external circuit resulting in a power-g

Gel electrophoresis has been used for decades as a high-resolution separation technique for proteins and protein isomers, but limited in the coupling with MS because of low throughput and poor automaticity compared with LC-MS. In this work, we have develop ...

The voltage-induced assembly of mercaptosuccinic acid-stabilized Au nanoparticles of 1.5 ± 0.4 nm diameter is investigated at the polarizable water|1,2-dichloroethane interface. Admittance measurements and quasi-elastic laser scattering (QELS) studies reveal that the surface concentration of the nanoparticle at the liquid|liquid boundary is reversibly controlled by the applied bias potential. The electrochemical and optical measurements provide no evidence of irreversible aggregation or deposition of the pa

Inkjet printing of electrochemical sensors using a highly loaded mildly edge‐oxidized graphene nanosheet (EOGN) ink is presented. An ink with 30 mg/mL EOGNs is formulated in a mixture of N‐methyl pyrrolidone and propylene glycol with only 30 min of sonicat ...

A sandwich mixer consists of mixing two solutions in a channel, one central laminar flow being sandwiched between two outer flow solutions. The present numerical study considers the convection– diffusion of two reacting species A and B, provided respective ...
