We report the temperature dependence of the resistivity and thermoelectric power (TEP) under hydrostatic pressure of the itinerant antiferromagnet BaFe2As2 and the electron-doped superconductor Ba(Fe0.9Co0.1)(2)As-2. We observe a hole-like contribution to the thermopower below the structural/magnetic (S-M) transition in the parent compound that is suppressed in magnitude and temperature with pressure. Pressure increases the contribution of electrons to transport in both the doped and undoped compound. In th

At present, nanofilaments are not exclusively based on carbon atoms but can be produced from many inorganic materials in the form of nanotubes and nanowires. It is essential to systematically assess the acute toxicity of these newly synthesized materials s ...

We present the results of a systematic study of the temperature-dependent resistivity and of T-c of a single crystal MgB2 sample as a function of point defect concentration. We have found linear, albeit weak, correlation between the decreasing superconduct ...

Catalytic Chemical Vapour Deposition (CCVD) is considered as the most suitable technique for the large scale and low-cost production of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. We have studied the effect of the preparation process, and of the support particle size on ...

In a seminal paper, Mahan predicted that excitonic bound states can still exist in a semiconductor at electron-hole densities above the insulator-to-metal Mott transition. However, no clear evidence for this exotic quasiparticle, dubbed Mahan exciton, exis ...

In clean metallic superconductors, 100% of the mobile carriers participate ill the condensate, so that the London penetration depth (which measures the electromagnetic screening by the superconductor) indicates charge densities comparable to those inferred from the free-carrier plasma frequency. In the cuprates, this is not the case, even though penetration depth measurements have shown a good correlation between superfluid density and superconducting transition temperature in the underdoped-to-optimally-do

The transition metal tellurium oxychloride, Ni-5(TeO3)(4)Cl-2, has been investigated by high-field electron-spin resonance for frequencies up to 3 THz, at temperatures well below the magnetic ordering at 23 K. At zero external field several resonance modes ...

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been considered one of the most promising material to make nanodevices, in particular nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS), due to their remarkable mechanical (Young's modulus ∼ 1 TPa) and electrical (high conductivity for metallic nanotubes) properties, nevertheless their low mass. Several NEMS device categories based on carbon nanotubes have been reported in the literature: sensors [1], non-volatile memories [2], tunable oscillators [3] and nanoswitches [4], which offer high s

Nitrogen doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes and other carbon nanoparticles were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition of tripropylamine and acetylene on CaCO3-supported cobalt catalyst (5 wt%), prepared by impregnation, and various precursors ...

The aim of our experiments was the production of helically coiled carbon nanotubes selectively. The influence of catalytic particles prepared by ball milling (dry and wet method) was investigated on the growth. of coiled carbon nanotubes under conditions. ...

We have measured the pressure and temperature dependences of the resistivity and the thermoelectric power of anatase, TiO2. The resistivity varies with T-3 at high temperatures, and its absolute value is in the 1 Omega cm range. Below 60 K, the resistivity ...

In this study, we report the influence of vanadium oxide (VO), as a photosensitive component, on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs). A series of TNTs of varying tube diameter were synthesized by the anodization of titanium foils at different voltag ...

We demonstrate that single crystals of methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr(3)) could be grown directly on vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) forests. The fast-growing MAPbBr3 single crystals engulfed the protogenetic inclusions in the form of indiv ...

We have developed a conducting composite based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes and bisphenol A novolak epoxy resin (SU8) for inkjet printing purposes. We could deposit regular conducting stripes and arrays of 150 mu m spots on glass and on flexible polyet ...

Highly ordered, anodically grown TiO2 nanotubes on titanium supports were annealed in ammonia atmosphere in order to incorporate nitrogen doping (

Shaping metals as a foam modulates their physical properties, enabling attractive applications where lightweight, low thermal conductivity, or acoustic isolation are desirable. Adjusting the size of the bubbles in the foams is particularly relevant for tar ...

We study the electron spin resonance (ESR) signal of pristine and potassium doped SWCNTs. We identify signals of a superparamagnetic background, a low intensity impurity, and of the conduction electron spin resonance (CESR). The latter only appears upon th ...

We present a newly-developed microwave probe for performing sensitive high-field/multi-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements under high hydrostatic pressures. The system consists of a BeCu-made pressure-resistant vessel, which accommodates t ...

An important issue in nanoelectromechanical systems is developing small electrically driven motors. We report on an artificial nanofabricated motor in which one short carbon nanotube moves relative to another coaxial nanotube. A cargo is attached to an abl ...

We measured the elastic modulus of individual multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) grown by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CVD) over a broad diameter range (10-25 nm). Alternating current (ac) dielectrophoresis was used for efficient tube deposition ...
