Approximate circuit design is a promising approach to improve performances and energy efficiency beyond the boundaries of conventional digital circuits. Such strategy is suitable for error-tolerant applications involving perceptive or statistical outputs. This work presents a novel architecture of an Inexact Speculative Adder for high-performance applications with optimized hardware and advanced error compensation technique. This adder allows precise tuning of accuracy to match design specifications while o

This work experimentally demonstrates negative capacitance MOSFETs in hysteretic and non-hysteretic modes of operation. A PZT capacitor is externally connected to the gate of commercial nMOSFETs fabricated in 28nm CMOS technology to explore the negative ca ...

The EKV2.6 MOSFET compact model has had a considerable impact on the academic and industrial community of analog integrated circuit design, since its inception in 1996. The model is available as a free open-source software (FOSS) tool coded in Verilog-A. T ...

This paper proposes a simple model of the thermal noise excess factor in saturation gamma(nsat) for short-channel transistors affected by velocity saturation. It is shown that gamma(nsat) in strong inversion and saturation under velocity saturation increas ...

The current trend for deep learning has come with an enormous computational need for billions of Multiply-Accumulate (MAC) operations per inference. Fortunately, reduced precision has demonstrated large benefits with low impact on accuracy, paving the way ...

To improve the dexterity of multi-functional myoelectric prosthetic hand, more accurate hand gesture recognition based on surface electromyographic (sEMG) signal is needed. This paper evaluates two types of time-domain EMG features, one independent feature ...

A sub-sampling based multiband RF front end suitable for medical telemetry applications is presented. Using a single inductor and a single sampling frequency it is shown how to downconvert concurrently Bluetooth LE and MICS band signals to baseband with re ...

This paper uses the simplified charge-based EKV MOSFET model for studying the effects of total ionizing dose (TID) on analog parameters and figures-of-merit (FoMs) of 28nm bulk MOSFETs. These effects are demonstrated to be fully captured by the five key pa ...

This work presents an analytical analysis of the thermal noise in widely used correlated double-sampling (CDS) circuits. The objective is to provide designers with simplified noise formulas essential for the design and optimization of such blocks. The obta ...

Email Print Request Permissions For a CIS readout chain based on 4T pixel, column amplification and CDS, we confirm that thermal noise can be reduced to be neglected compared to 1/f noise using parameters independent of the pixel design, namely column leve ...

Providing sensory feedback for myoelectric prosthetic users can not only increase the manipulation ability but can also introduce a feeling of embodiment. Previous research has demonstrated the feasibility of providing mechanotactile or vibrotactile feedba ...

In this paper a continuous-time low-pass analog filter based on the Cascoded Super Source Follower (C-SSF) architecture, implemented in a 28-nm bulk CMOS process, is presented. The target application is the transceiver analog baseband for the next-generati ...

This paper presents an extensive characterization and modeling of a commercial 28-nm FDSOI CMOS process operating down to cryogenic temperatures. The important cryogenic phenomena influencing this technology are discussed. The low-temperature transfer char ...

This paper presents the first experimental investigation and physical discussion of the cryogenic behavior of a commercial 28 nm bulk CMOS technology. Here we extract the fundamental physical parameters of this technology at 300,77 and 4.2 K based on DC me ...

This paper presents the simplified charge-based EKV MOSFET model and shows that it can be used for advanced CMOS processes despite its very few parameters. The concept of inversion coefficient is then presented as an essential design parameter that spans t ...

The subthreshold swing (SS) of MOSFETs decreases with temperature and then saturates below a critical temperature. Hopping conduction via the band tail has been proposed as the possible cause for the SS saturation. On the other hand, numerical simulations ...

Inexact or approximate circuits show great ability to reduce power consumption at the cost of occasional errors in comparison to their conventional counterparts. Even though the benefits of such circuits have been proven for many applications, they are not ...

In this paper we report the results of Monte-Carlo simulations performed on double-gate ballistic MOSFETs with a geometry such that the gates overlap only a fraction of the channel. We present a qualitative analysis of the simulation results highlighting t ...

In most robotic and biomedical applications, the interest for real-time embedded systems with tactile ability has been growing. For example in prosthetics, a dedicated portable system is needed for developing wearable devices. The main challenges for such ...
