Alex DommannTeaching & PhD Courses CCMX Advanced Course - Advanced X-ray Diffraction Methods for Coatings: strain, defects and deformation analysis of thin films MSE-628 After introducing thin film and HR-XRD characterisation methods, theory and limitations are discussed, including examples and how the film structure influences its characteristics. Protocols are presented for establishing reproducible and reliable measurements, and for interpreting their results. X-Ray Analysis for thin films
Thorsten SchmittTeaching & PhD PhD Students Zhijia Zhang Past EPFL PhD Students as codirector Yi Tseng Courses Neutron and X-ray Scattering of Quantum Materials PHYS-640 Neutron and X-ray scattering are some of the most powerful and versatile experimental methods to study the structure and dynamics of materials on the atomic scale. This course covers basic theory, instrumentation and scientific applications of these experimental methods.

Mathematical Modelling, Forecasting and Optimization for Power System Applications
Current work
He is currently working on (i) forecasting of the electrical load in application to real-time control of micro-grids and (ii) planning and development of the power system infrastructure under an increased penetration of distributed generation.
Fabrizio is an Italian citizen and was born in Genova on 9th April 1985. He got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Genova in 2007

Cécile HébertCécile Hébert was born in France in 1970. She obtained her Ingeneer degree (physics) and her PhD degree (design of a new energy filter for transmission electron microscopy, under the direction of Prof. B. Jouffrey) at the Ecole Centrale in Paris.
As a post doc with Prof. P. Schattschneider, she was working on the calculation of the fine structure of ionisation edges in EELS. As a research assistant at the Vienna University of Technology, she was one of the main participant to the CHIRALTEM project dealing with the measurement of magnetic circular dichroism in the electron microscope.
