A Cavity-Microscope for Quantum Simulations with Locally-Controllable All-to-All Interactions

Nick Jacob Sauerwein

This thesis presents the development, construction, and benchmark of an experimental platform that combines cold fermionic 6Li atoms with locally controllable light-matter interactions. To enable local control, a new device, the cavity-microscope, was crea ...

Electron-beam based nanoscale quantum controls

Hoda Shirzad

Advancing quantum technologies depends on the precise control of individual quantum systems, the so-called qubits, and the exploitation of their quantum properties. Nowadays, expanding the number of qubits to be entangled is at the core of the developments ...

Reduced Training Data for Laser Ultrasound Signal Interpretation by Neural Networks

Romain Christophe Rémy Fleury, Janez Rus

The performance of machine learning algorithms is conditioned by the availability of training datasets, which is especially true for the field of nondestructive evaluation. Here we propose one reconfigurable specimen instead of numerous reference specimens ...

Exciton migration in two-dimensional materials

Giovanni Consalvo Cistaro

Excitons play an essential role in the optical response of two-dimensional materials. These are bound states showing up in the band gaps of many-body systems and are conceived as quasiparticles formed by an electron and a hole. By performing real-time simu ...

Nonlinear optical diode effect in a magnetic Weyl semimetal

Chunyu Guo

Diode effects are of great interest for both fundamental physics and modern technologies. Electrical diode effects (nonreciprocal transport) have been observed in Weyl systems. Optical diode effects arising from the Weyl fermions have been theoretically co ...

Wavelength-stabilized figure-of-9 thulium-doped all-fiber laser emitting 560 fs pulses

Camille Sophie Brès, Moritz Bartnick, Gayathri Bharathan

We demonstrate a figure-of-9 all-fiber thulium-doped laser (TDFL) that generates 560 fs long pulses at 1948 nm wavelength. In order to achieve self-starting passive mode-locking, we utilize an in-fiber Faraday rotator to induce a nonreciprocal phase shift. ...
