Investigating Non-equilibrium Physics in Wide Bandgap Semiconductors and Quantum Materials via Ultrafast Spectroscopy

This thesis uses femtosecond laser spectroscopy in studying strong correlation in condensed matters that are pertinent to future technology: a wide bandgap perovskite and a quantum material, with the employment of ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy in th ...

Measuring electrical properties in semiconductor devices by pixelated STEM and off-axis electron holography (or convergent beams vs. plane waves)

Victor Carle Adrien Boureau

We demonstrate the use of both pixelated differential phase contrast (DPC) scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and off-axis electron holography (EH) for the measurement of electric fields and assess the advantages and limitations of each techn ...

A Dual-Channel Gate Driver Design with Active Voltage Balancing Circuit for Series Connection of SiC MOSFETs

Drazen Dujic, Rui Wang

Dual-channel gate driver is commonly utilized in the industry for accommodating the widespread use of half-bridge power modules. As wide-bandgap devices become increasingly prevalent due to their superior switching characteristics compared with conventiona ...

Plasmonic Nanostructures for Photocatalysis: Material, Photonic and Electronic Effects

Fateme Kiani Shahvandi

Plasmonic photochemistry has a large potential to replace energy-intensive chemical processes with low-temperature, low-pressure light-driven chemical reactions. Plasmonic nanostructures have emerged as promising photocatalysts with exceptional and tunable ...

Persistent enhancement of exciton diffusivity in CsPbBr3 nanocrystal solids

Seryio Saris

In semiconductors, exciton or charge carrier diffusivity is typically described as an inherent material property. Here, we show that the transport of excitons among CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) depends markedly on how recently those NCs were occup ...

Microstructural and electrical characterization of high temperature passivating contacts for silicon solar cells

Sofia Libraro

Recombination at metal/semiconductor interfaces represents the main limitation in mainstream c-Si solar cells, primarily based on the passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) concept. Full-area passivating contacts based on SiOx/poly-Si stacks are a candida ...

Light Emission and Conductance Fluctuations in Electrically Driven and Plasmonically Enhanced Molecular Junctions

Christophe Marcel Georges Galland, Wen Chen, Sakthi Priya Amirtharaj, Konstantin Malchow, Zhiyuan Xie

Electrically connected and plasmonically enhanced molecular junctions combine the optical functionalities of high field confinement and enhancement (cavity function), and of high radiative efficiency (antenna function) with the electrical functionalities o ...

Long live(d) CsPbBr3 superlattices: colloidal atomic layer deposition for structural stability

Raffaella Buonsanti, Philippe Benjamin Green, Alexander Nicolas Chen

Superlattice formation afforded by metal halide perovskite nanocrystals has been a phenomenon of interest due to the high structural order induced in these self-assemblies, an order that is influenced by the surface chemistry and particle morphology of the ...

Doping Engineering for PDP Optimization in SPADs Implemented in 55-nm BCD Process

Edoardo Charbon, Claudio Bruschini, Wenfeng Liu

We introduce a new family of single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) with enhanced depletion regions in a 55-nm Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) technology. We demonstrate how to systematically engineer doping profiles in the main junction and in deep p-well layers ...

Silicon nitride electric-field poled microresonator modulator

Camille Sophie Brès, Edgars Nitiss, Boris Zabelich, Christian André Clément Lafforgue

Stoichiometric silicon nitride is a highly regarded platform for its favorable attributes, such as low propagation loss and compatibility with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology, making it a prominent choice for various linear and nonlinear ...

Controlling crystal cleavage in focused ion beam shaped specimens for surface spectroscopy

Matthias Carsten Putzke

Our understanding of quantum materials is commonly based on precise determinations of their electronic spectrum by spectroscopic means, most notably angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and scanning tunneling microscopy. Both require atomicall ...
