Cytotherapies are often necessary for the management of symptomatic large knee (osteo)-chondral defects. While autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) has been clinically used for 30 years, allogeneic cells (clinical-grade FE002 primary chondroprogenitor ...

The use of CAR technologies has revolutionized cancer treatment. Their unprecedented efficacy against B cell malignancies has opened the doors for a lot of excitement and research in the field. These synthetic receptors are composed of an antigen recogniti ...

IMPORTANCE There are limited comparative data on the durability of neutralizing antibody (nAb) responses elicited by messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) in immunocompromised patients and healthy controls. ...

Islet transplantation is a promising approach for the treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently, clinical islet transplantation is limited by allo - and autoimmunity that may cause partial or complete loss of islet function within a short period of tim ...

Macrophages sustain tumour progression by facilitating angiogenesis, promoting immunosuppression, and enhancing cancer cell invasion and metastasis. They also modulate tumour response to anti-cancer therapy in pre-clinical models. This knowledge has motiva ...

The STING protein aids intracellular defences by triggering inflammation. Studies that uncover how STING is activated might lead to strategies for targeting this protein in the treatment of cancer or autoimmune diseases. ...

Worldwide, tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death due to a single infectious agent, claiming 1.6 million human lives and causing >10 million new cases in 2017 alone, mostly in low-income regions. The intracellular pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculos ...

Tuberculosis (TB), whose etiological agent is Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), has plagued humanity since antiquity. Even with chemotherapy available today, TB is the leading cause of death due to an infectious disease. Modern day factors, suc ...

Benzothiazinones (BTZ) are highly potent bactericidal inhibitors of mycobacteria and the lead compound, BTZ043, and the optimized drug candidate, PBTZ169, have potential for the treatment of tuberculosis. Here, we exploited the tractability of the BTZ scaf ...

Several embodiments of the present disclosure relate to therapeutic compositions configured to target the liver of a subject and that are useful in the treatment or prevention of one or more of transplant rejection, autoimmune disease, food allergy, and im ...

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease marked by the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreatic islets. Strategies to delay onset or prevent the autoimmune recognition of beta cell antigens or T cell-mediated killing of beta cells have ...

The target autoantigens in several organ-specific autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes (T1D), are intracellular membrane proteins, whose initial encounter with the immune system is poorly understood. Here we propose a new model for how these prot ...

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease characterized by circulating autoantibodies, lymphocytic infiltration of pancreatic islets of Langerhans, and cell-specific destruction of beta cells, leading to insulin deficiency and symptomatic hyperglycemi ...

Several embodiments of the present disclosure relate to glycotargeting therapeutics that are useful in the treatment of transplant rejection, autoimmune disease, food allergy, and immune response against a therapeutic agent. In several embodiments, the com ...

Immune-mediated disorders such as autoimmune diseases, graft-versus-host disease or allergies, are a major contemporary burden. Despite significant advances in the field of immunological tolerance, immunosuppressive drugs are still the current hallmark for ...

The golden age of antimicrobial drug development is a distant memory, and the likelihood of there being another seems slim. In part, this is because the pharmaceutical industry, which has now adopted an unsustainable business model, abandoned the anti-infe ...

Antigens derived from apoptotic cell debris can drive clonal T-cell deletion or anergy, and antigens chemically coupled ex vivo to apoptotic cell surfaces have been shown correspondingly to induce tolerance on infusion. Reasoning that a large number of ery ...

Immunological functions of mast cells remain poorly understood. Studies in Kit mutant mice suggest key roles for mast cells in certain antibody- and T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. However, Kit mutations affect multiple cell types of both immune and n ...

The recent years have witnessed significant progress in the development of new drug candidates for the treatment of TB. While many of these are now in clinical trials, continued research is needed in order to sustain the drug discovery pipeline and meet th ...

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a major mediator in innate immunity and inflammation and a potential therapeutic target in multiple inflammatory, infectious and autoimmune diseases including cancer. Current therapeutic strategies for target ...
