To miniaturize the double-resonance (DR) rubidium (Rb) vapor-cell atomic clocks, a new type of micro-loop-gap microwave resonator (mu-LGR) is proposed for TE011-like mode where the magnetic field inside the cavity is homogeneous and oriented along its long ...

Discrete domes are doubly curved structures comprising a network of beam-like elements. We study the mechanics of discrete domes made of ribbons woven in a pentagonal triaxial pattern. Experiments and finite element simulations are performed to characteriz ...

In engineering, oscillatory instabilities and resonances are often considered undesirable flow features and measures are taken to avoid them. This may include avoiding certain parametric regions or implementing control and mitigation strategies. However, t ...

Small-scale turbomachinery is increasingly used in carbon-free energy conversion systems, such as commercial or domestic scale heat pumps, fuels cells for transportation and waste heat recovery. The usage of aerodynamic bearings allows the design of compac ...

Incipient valley formation in mountainous landscapes is often associated with their presence at a regular spacing under diverse hydroclimatic forcings. Here we provide a formal linear stability theory for a landscape evolution model (LEM) representing the ...

Materials with thermal-invariant elastic properties are of interest for resonant device frequency and dimensional stability of precision devices. Here, we demonstrate that the temperature coefficient of elasticity (TCE) of amorphous silica can be locally r ...

The current research focuses on the prediction of the maximum axial compression load a cylindrical shell is able to bear. This maximum axial compression load is the value at which a cylindrical shell loses stability and abruptly buckles. After the buckling ...

Projection-based reduced order models (ROM) based on the weak form and the strong form of the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method are proposed and compared for shock-dominated problems. The incorporation of dissipation components of DG in a consistent manne ...

The global linear stability of a water drop on hot nonwetting surfaces is studied. The droplet is assumed to have a static shape and the surface tension gradient is neglected. First, the nonlinear steady Boussinesq equation is solved to obtain the axisymme ...

The defects present in metal halide perovskite are deleterious to both the performance and stability of photovoltaic devices. Consequently, there is an intense focus on developing defect mitigation strategies. Herein we report a facile strategy that employ ...

The aim of this thesis is to implement, analyze and improve the selected low noise clock generation and distribution techniques for ADC implementations. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the sampling phase generation and distr ...

Since the invention of the pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens in 1657, precision timekeepers have been regulated by oscillators. Although the pendulum is not an isochronous oscillator, its introduction as a time basis for clock regulation led to a signif ...

Mixed cation perovskites, [HC(NH2)2]xCs(1-x)PbI3, (FAxCs(1-x)PbI3) with x=0.8 achieve high solar cell power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) while exhibiting long-term stability under ambient conditions. In this work, we perform density functional theory (DF ...

A finite groove approach (FGA), based on the finite element method (FEM), is used for analyzing the static and dynamic behavior of spiral-grooved aerodynamic journal bearings at different eccentricities, number of grooves, and compressibility numbers. The ...

Chirality-induced spin selectivity is evidenced by exciting the spin resonance of radicals in an electrochemical cell where the working electrode is covered with a chiral self-assembled monolayer. Because the electron transfer to and from the paramagnetic ...

This study proposes a general framework for topology-finding or topology optimization of tensegrity structures. The existing topology-finding formulation of tensegrity structures based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) was improved and transformed ...

Temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic resonance spectrum in a thulium orthoferrite (TmFeO3) poly-crystalline sample was studied by transmission spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.1–0.75 THz and temperature range of 300–670 K, up to its Néel ...

In this paper, we study local well-posedness and orbital stability of standing waves for a singularly perturbed one-dimensional nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation. We first establish local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem by a fixed point argument. Unlike ...

The hypervalent iodine reagent 1-[(TriIsoPropylSilyl)Ethynyl]-1,2-BenziodoXol-3(1H)-one (TIPS-EBX) is among the most useful electrophilic and somophilic alkynylation reagents. Herein, we report a new synthetic protocol to access this reagent in one step fr ...

Harnessing fluidic instabilities to produce structures with robust and regular properties has recently emerged as a new fabrication paradigm. This approach is exemplified in the work of Gumennik et al. [Nat. Commun. 4, 2216 (2103)], in which the authors fa ...
