Optical imaging probes have played a major role in detecting and monitoring a variety of diseases. In particular, nonlinear optical imaging probes, such as second harmonic generating (SHG) nanoprobes, hold great promise as clinical contrast agents, as they ...

Structured light generation having broad applications in different optical fields, is the topic of this thesis. Our structured light generation strategy is based on applying periodic microoptical elements at the refraction-diffraction limit, under a focuse ...

Progress in optics technology has enriched our daily lives in many ways. Various types of single-photon detector technologies have emerged in the last century. Among these, single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) technology outperforms other detectors for its ...

Fiber endoscopy plays an important role in the clinical diagnosis and treatment processes involved in modern medicine. Thin fiber probes can relay information from confined places in the human body that are inaccessible for conventional bulky microscopes. ...

A distributed and dynamic strain sensing system based on frequency-scanning phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry is proposed and demonstrated. By utilizing an RF pulse scheme with a fast arbitrary waveform generator, a train of optical pulses ...

Purpose To compare motion tracking by 2 modern methods (fat navigators [FatNavs] and Moir' phase tracking [MPT]) as well as their performance for retrospective correction of very high resolution acquisitions. Methods A direct comparison of FatNavs and MPT ...

Image super-resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image from the observed low-resolution image. In recent years, machine learning models have been widely employed and deep learning networks have achieved state-of-the-art super-resolution performance. ...

As of today, the extension of the human visual capabilities to machines remains both a cornerstone and an open challenge in the attempt to develop intelligent systems. On the one hand, the development of more and more sophisticated imaging devices, capable ...

Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), trained on corresponding pairs of high- and low-resolution images, achieve state-of-the-art performance in single-image super- resolution and surpass previous signal-processing based approaches. However, their per ...

In this paper, a highly-sensitive distributed shape sensor based on a multicore fiber (MCF) and phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (φ-OTDR) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The implemented system features a high strain sensitivit ...

Limited time-resolution in microscopy is an obstacle to many biological studies. Despite recent advances in hardware, digital cameras have limited operation modes that constrain frame-rate, integration time, and color sensing patterns. In this paper, we pr ...
