We consider the problem of comparing several samples of stochastic processes with respect to their second-order structure, and describing the main modes of variation in this second order structure, if present. These tasks can be seen as an Analysis of Vari ...

This paper proposes an algorithm to upper-bound maximal quantile statistics of a state function over the course of a Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) system execution. This chance-peak problem is posed as a nonconvex program aiming to maximize the Va ...

We consider expected performances based on max-stable random fields and we are interested in their derivatives with respect to the spatial dependence parameters of those fields. Max-stable fields, such as the Brown-Resnick and Smith fields, are very popula ...

Without resorting to complex numbers or any advanced topological arguments, we show that any real polynomial of degree greater than two always has a real quadratic polynomial factor, which is equivalent to the fundamental theorem of algebra. The proof uses ...

The current leading 6D object pose estimation methods rely heavily on annotated real data, which is highly costly to acquire. To overcome this, many works have proposed to introduce computer-generated synthetic data. However, bridging the gap between the s ...

Spectral techniques for Boolean and multiple-valued functions have been well studied and found to be useful in logic design and testing for conventional circuits. Spectral techniques also have potential application for reversible and quantum circuits. This ...

Let P be a partially ordered set. The function La* (n, P) denotes the size of the largest family F subset of 2([n]) that does not contain an induced copy of P. It was proved by Methuku and Palvolgyi that there exists a constant C-P (depending only on P) su ...

This paper focuses on depth of field (DOF) extension through polarization aberrations. The addition of polarizing elements into an optical system allows to exploit the polarization of the incoming light as an additional degree of freedom in the optical sys ...

We establish an explicit upper bound for the Euclidean minimum of a number field which depends, in a precise manner, only on its discriminant and the number of real and complex embeddings. Such bounds were shown to exist by Davenport and Swinnerton-Dyer ([ ...

Embeddings of maximal tori in classical groups over fields of characteristic not 2 are the subject matter of several recent papers. The aim of the present paper is to give necessary and sufficient conditions for such an embedding to exist, when the base fi ...

A long-standing conjecture of Richter and Thomassen states that the total number of intersection points between any n simple closed Jordan curves in the plane, so that any pair of them intersect and no three curves pass through the same point, is at least ...

We consider

L ^{ 1 }

-TV regularization of univariate signals with values on the real line or on the unit circle. While the real data space leads to a convex optimization problem, the problem is nonconvex for circle-valued data. In this paper, we deriv ...

We study the nonequilibrium interplay between disorder and interactions in a closed quantum system. We base our analysis on the notion of dynamical state-space localization, calculated via the Loschmidt echo. Although real-space and state-space localizatio ...

A method of encoding data for transmission from a source to a destination over a communications channel is provided. The method operates on an ordered set of input symbols and includes generating a plurality of redundant symbols from the input symbols base ...

This paper is devoted to the study of the behavior of the unique solution u delta is an element of H-0(1)(Omega), as delta -> 0, to the equation div(s(delta)A del u(delta)) + k(2)s(0)Sigma u(delta) = s0 f in Omega, where Omega is a smooth connected bounded ...

We derive bounds on the expected loss for authentication protocols in channels which are constrained due to noisy conditions and communication costs. This is motivated by a number of authentication protocols, where at least some part of the authentication ...

We study the nonlinear stochastic heat equation in the spatial domain R, driven by space-time white noise. A central special case is the parabolic Anderson model. The initial condition is taken to be a measure on R, such as the Dirac delta function, but th ...

In this paper, we define Euclidean minima for function fields and give some bound for this invariant. We furthermore show that the results are analogous to those obtained in the number field case. (C) 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Inc. All rights ...

A recently found local-global principle for quadratic forms over function fields of curves over a complete discretely valued field is applied to the study of quadratic forms, sums of squares, and related field invariants. ...

We show that Li's criterion equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis, i.e., the statement that the sums k(n) = Sigma(rho)(1-(1-1/rho)(n)) over zeros of the Riemann xi-function and the derivatives lambda(n) equivalent to 1/(n-1)! d(n)/dz(n)(z(n-1) ln (xi(z)))ve ...
