This work studies the learning process over social networks under partial and random information sharing. In traditional social learning models, agents exchange full belief information with each other while trying to infer the true state of nature. We stud ...

Electric vehicle charging facilities offer their capacity constrained electric charge and parking to users for a fee. As electric vehicle adoption grows, so too does the potential for excessive resource utilization. In this paper, we study how prices set b ...

Modern digital connectivity has necessitated the creation of robust methods for securely storing and transferring data. At the heart of all security infrastructure is the random number generator (RNG). While random numbers find use in a variety of applicat ...

Quantum random number generators (QRNGs) are a burgeoning technology used for a variety of applications, including modern security and encryption systems. Typical methods exploit an entropy source combined with an extraction or bit generation circuit in or ...

This paper examines the minimization of the cost for an expected random production output, given an assembly of finished goods from two random inputs, matched in two categories. We describe the optimal input portfolio, first using the standard normal appro ...

In this work, we tackle the problem of minimising the Conditional-Value-at-Risk (CVaR) of output quantities of complex differential models with random input data, using gradient-based approaches in combination with the Multi-Level Monte Carlo (MLMC) method ...

We propose nonparametric estimators for the second-order central moments of possibly anisotropic spherical random fields, within a functional data analysis context. We consider a measurement framework where each random field among an identically distribute ...

Since the birth of Information Theory, researchers have defined and exploited various information measures, as well as endowed them with operational meanings. Some were born as a "solution to a problem", like Shannon's Entropy and Mutual Information. Other ...

The discretization of robust quadratic optimal control problems under uncertainty using the finite element method and the stochastic collocation method leads to large saddle-point systems, which are fully coupled across the random realizations. Despite its ...

The quantification of uncertainties can be particularly challenging for problems requiring long-time integration as the structure of the random solution might considerably change over time. In this respect, dynamical low-rank approximation (DLRA) is very a ...

We study the behaviour of a natural measure defined on the leaves of the genealogical tree of some branching processes, namely self-similar growth-fragmentation processes. Each particle, or cell, is attributed a positive mass that evolves in continuous tim ...

We introduce the "continuized" Nesterov acceleration, a close variant of Nesterov acceleration whose variables are indexed by a continuous time parameter. The two variables continuously mix following a linear ordinary differential equation and take gradien ...

Harnessing quantum randomness for the generation of random numbers is an important concept crucial for information security and many other computer-related applications. Quantum random number generators (QRNGs) are evolving from bulky, slow, and expensive ...

We consider one-dimensional excited random walks (ERWs) with i.i.d. Markovian cookie stacks in the non-boundary recurrent regime. We prove that under diffusive scaling such an ERW converges in the standard Skorokhod topology to a multiple of Brownian motio ...

True random number generators (TRNGs) allow the generation of true random bit sequences, guaranteeing the unpredictability and perfect balancing of the generated values. TRNGs can be realised from the sampling of quantum phenomena, for instance, the detect ...

High entropy alloys add a new dimension, atomic-scale randomness and the associated scale-dependent composition fluctuations, to the traditional metallurgical axes of time-temperature-composition-microstructure. Alloy performance is controlled by the energ ...

The distribution of electrolytes in an electric field usually relies on theories based on the Poisson-Boltzmann formalism. These models predict that, in the case of a metallic electrode, ionic charges screen the electrode potential, leading to concentratio ...

The internal fields in 2.2nm thick InGaN quantum wells in a GaN LED structure have been investigated by using aberration-corrected off-axis electron holography with a spatial resolution of better than 1nm. To improve the spatial resolution, different types ...

Fluid simulations of the boundary of fusion plasmas predict the formation of an electric potential well in the vicinity of the X-point in detached divertor conditions with Bt in the unfavorable direction for H-mode access. This potential well arises when t ...

This work presents a technique to produce random bits by exploiting single-photon time of arrival. Two quantum random number generator (QRNG) devices based on the field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology are presented: Randy, which uses one discrete ...
