Recent works in aerial robotics show that the self-organized and cohesive flight of swarms can emerge from the exchange of purely local information between neighboring agents. However, most of the current swarm models are not capable of flight in densely c ...

City-scale control of urban road traffic poses a challenging problem. Dynamical models based on the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) enable development of model predictive perimeter control methods for large-scale urban networks, representing an advan ...

The problem of traffic state estimation for large-scale urban networks modeled with MFD dynamics is studied here. Given a network partitioned in a number of regions, aggregated traffic dynamics describe the vehicle accumulation in each region, as well as t ...

Complex network theory describes network performance mostly based on topological characteristics, like betweenness centrality. This work integrates concepts from complex networks and traffic engineering. We propose a new measure for spatial networks and, i ...

The degree of intelligence built-in in today's vehicles in constantly on the rise. The vehicles are being equipped with sensors, with the goal to estimate the state of the vehicle and the environment surrounding it. Intelligent algorithms that process the ...

The City Automated Transport System (CATS) was a collaborative FP7 European project that lasted from 2010 to 2014. Its objective was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of driverless electric vehicles in European cities. This contribution explain ...

A field experiment in Yokohama (japan) revealed that a macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) linking space-mean flow, density and speed exists on a large urban area. It was observed that when the highly scattered plots of flow vs. density from individual f ...

This paper presents an initial state of the art about the most important techniques for reducing noise in an electrical machine. The FEM 3D modal analysis (realized with the software Ansys 11.0) is then proposed to study and reduce the acoustical power rad ...

There has been a significant growth in freight traffic over the last few decades in Europe. The Alps, located in the middle of North-South route, are particularly sensitive regarding this evolution because of their topographic and climatic characteristics. ...
