Surface roughness is a key factor when it comes to friction and wear, as well as to other physical properties. These phenomena are controlled by mechanisms acting at small scales, in which the topography of apparently flat surfaces is revealed. Roughness i ...

We prove global in time well-posedness for perturbations of the 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equations partial derivative( t)u + u center dot del u = Delta u - del p + sigma + xi, u(0, center dot ) = u(0),div (u) = 0, driven by additive space-time white noi ...

In this thesis, we study the stochastic heat equation (SHE) on bounded domains and on the whole Euclidean space

\R^d.

We confirm the intuition that as the bounded domain increases to the whole space, both solutions become arbitrarily close to one another ...

In this paper, we formally investigate two mathematical aspects of Hermite splines that are relevant to practical applications. We first demonstrate that Hermite splines are maximally localized, in the sense that the size of their support is minimal among ...

In this paper, we present an efficient, functional, and formally verified parsing algorithm for LL(1) context-free expressions based on the concept of derivatives of formal languages. Parsing with derivatives is an elegant parsing technique, which, in the ...

In the present work, an analytical solution is presented for the scattering of transverse surface waves by a homogeneous piezoelectric fiber contained in a functionally graded piezoelectric half-space with exponential variation. The boundary value problem ...

We develop an analytical formulation to calculate the induced resonance frequency shifts of an electrostatically actuated torsional microsensor due to an added bio-mass (E. coli). Based on a lumped-parameter model, we investigate the static and the linear ...

The geometrical intrinsic contribution to the anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) of a metal is commonly expressed as a reciprocal-space integral: as such, it only addresses unbounded and macroscopically homogeneous samples. Here we show that the geometrical ...

Location-aware data collection technologies provide new insights about location choices. Only a few dynamic models of location choice exist in scientific literature. To our knowledge, none of them correct for serial correlation. In this paper, we model cho ...

In this paper, building upon Bussgang's theorem, we present a new expression for the total degradation (TD) in OFDM systems. This novel expression is applicable to any high power amplifier (HPA) model. In case of ideal clipping HPA model and for particular ...

This paper deals with a concept and description of a RC network as an electro-analog model of diffusion process which enables to simulate heat dissipation under different initial and boundary conditions. It is based on well-known analogy between heat and e ...

Source imaging maps back boundary measurements to underlying generators within the domain; e. g., retrieving the parameters of the generating dipoles from electrical potential measurements on the scalp such as in electroencephalography (EEG). Fitting such ...

Thermal diffusivity of snow is an important thermodynamic property associated with key hydrological phenomena such as snow melt and heat and water vapor exchange with the atmosphere. Direct determination of snow thermal diffusivity requires coupled point m ...

Two global gyrokinetic codes are benchmarked against each other by comparing simulation results in the case of ion temperature gradient driven turbulence, in the adiabatic electron response limit The two codes are the Eulerian code GENE and the Lagrangian ...

The memoryless noncoherent single-input-single-output (SISO) Rayleigh-fading channel is considered. Closed-form expressions are derived for the mutual information between the output and the input of this channel when the input magnitude distribution is dis ...
