Parametric amplifiers play a crucial role in modern quantum technology by enabling the enhancement of weak signals with minimal added noise. Traditionally, Josephson junctions have been the primary choice for constructing parametric amplifiers. Nevertheles ...

Container transportation is pivotal in global supply chains, facilitating the exchange of goods between companies across different countries. Given the exceedingly high operational costs of transporting containers, optimizing itinerary schedules can yield ...

Sentiment analysis is the automated coding of emotions expressed in text. Sentiment analysis and other types of analyses focusing on the automatic coding of textual documents are increasingly popular in psychology and computer science. However, the potenti ...

For safe and efficient operation, mobile robots need to perceive their environment, and in particular, perform tasks such as obstacle detection, localization, and mapping. Although robots are often equipped with microphones and speakers, the audio modality ...

The acoustics of a room often refer to the quality of the room in terms of sound recording as well as sound reproduction. At low frequencies, where the wavelengths are of the same order of magnitude with the dimensions of the room, due to the standing wave ...

The present paper discusses the climatic effects of humidity and temperature on cochlear implant functioning and the quality of the electrical sound signal. MATLAB Simulink simulations were prepared, offering insights into signal behavior under such climat ...

Dielectric elastomers are soft actuators, made of an elastomer membrane sandwiched by compliant electrodes. Because of their high energy density and quick response, they are well suited for dynamic applications such as loudspeakers. Thanks to progress in t ...

Equalisation, a signal processing technique commonly used to shape the sound of music, is defined as the adjustment of the energy in specific frequency components of a signal. In this work, we investigate the effects of equalisation on preference and senso ...

The ever-growing global internet traffic has increased demand for higher speed data transmission. As the bandwidth requirements of wireline links increase, extensive digital equalization techniques are required to compensate for the high-frequency channel ...

Robust and distributionally robust optimization are modeling paradigms for decision-making under uncertainty where the uncertain parameters are only known to reside in an uncertainty set or are governed by any probability distribution from within an ambigu ...

Inspired by the human ability to localize sounds, even with only one ear, as well as to recognize objects using active echolocation, we investigate the role of sound scattering and prior knowledge in regularizing ill-posed inverse problems in acoustics. In ...

Technology and energy saving potentials in the industrial sector are key data that policy-makers rely on to drive decision-making. A literature review reveals a distinct discrepancy between general potential estimation and detailed design studies. The form ...

A new data-driven approach using the frequency response function (FRF) of a system is proposed for designing robust-fixed structure digital controllers for particle accelerators' power converters. This design method ensures that the dynamics of a system ar ...

Developing classification algorithms that are fair with respect to sensitive attributes of the data is an important problem due to the increased deployment of classification algorithms in societal contexts. Several recent works have focused on studying cla ...

A new robust controller design method that satisfies the H-infinity criterion is developed for linear time-invariant single-input single-output (SISO) systems. A data-driven approach is implemented in order to avoid the unmodeled dynamics associated with p ...

Multi-objective optimization tools are becoming increasingly popu-lar in mechanical engineering and allow decision-makers to better understand the inevitable trade-offs. Mechanical design problems can however combine properties that make the use of optimiz ...

The exponential growth of Internet traffic and related demands for higher communication speed pushes processor-to-processor and processor-to-memory interconnects to provide further higher data-rate. Often time, processor-to-memory interconnectsâ speed is ...

A method for presenting to a user of a wearable audio device a modified audio scene together with additional information related to the audio scene, comprising: capturing audio signals with a plurality of microphones; outputting an audio signal with a plur ...

We present a novel implementation strategy for distributed autoregressive moving average (ARMA) graph filters. Differently from the state of the art implementation, the proposed approach has the following benefits: (i) the designed filter coefficients come ...

This paper describes the technical challenges tied to modeling and design optimization of the medium frequency transformer (MFT) for power electronic applications, namely emerging solid state transformers (SSTs). A detailed analysis and modelling of the ph ...
