Using lightweight alloys (alloys with high strength to weight ratio) is essential in transportation industries as it reduces the overall weight of the vehicles and their fuel consumption. Mg is the lightest structural metal with density of about one-fourth ...

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a catalyst comprising the steps of a. dissolving two or more alloy metal salts, b. adding at least one chelating agent and at least one stabilising agent, forming a sol, c. adding an encapsulant to ...

To model rupture dynamics, a friction law must be assumed. Commonly used constitutive laws include slip- weakening laws which are characterized by a drop from static to dynamic frictional stress over a critical slip distance. Within this framework, the pre ...

Hydrogen-dislocation interactions have always been a crucial problem in understanding and predicting the longstanding hydrogen embrittlement (HE) phenomenon in structural metals. Particularly with respect to hydrogen diffusion, dislocations have often been ...

Studying the process of divertor detachment and the associated complex interplay of plasma dynamics and atomic physics processes is of utmost importance for future fusion reactors. While simplified analytical models exist to interpret the general features ...

Piezoelectric materials produce a linear deformation in response to an applied electric field and are essential for precision-control devices. The conventional view is that polymers must be crystalline and possess remanent polarization after artificial pol ...

Monocrystalline microwires of silver are produced by means of a novel casting process that combines precise mold production by silicon microfabrication with molten metal pressure infiltration. The wires have a shape amenable to tensile testing and a diamet ...

The interactions between molecules and electrode surfaces play a key role in electrochemical processes and are a subject of extensive research, both experimental and theoretical. In this paper, we address the water dissociation reaction on a Pd(111) electr ...

Combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, we addressed the surface electronic structure of bent SrTiO 3 (STO) (001) wafers. Using a custom-made device, we observe that the low-dimensional states that em ...

The current economic and ecological situation encourages the use of steel to push the technological limits and offer more cost-effective products. The enhancement of steel properties like wear, corrosion, and oxidation resistance is achieved by the additio ...

In a typical Nb3Sn cable for fusion applications, the knowledge of the strain state of Nb3Sn filaments is important to predict and interpret the conductor performance in operation. Amongst the relevant strain sources, the predominant is the thermal strain ...

Micron-scale shaped 2D or 2.5D structures made of silver or copper can be produced by combining silicon photolithographic etching with metal casting by pressure infiltration. This combination of two classical pro-cesses, one from semiconductor fabrication ...
