5G New Radio (NR) has stringent demands on both performance and complexity for the design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding algorithms and corresponding VLSI implementations. Furthermore, decoders must fully support the wide range of all 5G NR bl ...

Technology supporting meditation is a multimillion-dollar market that continues to grow. There is also strong academic interest to understand and improve the impact technology can have for the user experience of practitioners. However, little work investig ...

State-of-the-art 2D image compression schemes rely on the power of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Although CNNs offer promising perspectives for 2D image compression, extending such models to omnidirectional images is not straightforward. First, omn ...

This paper presents an ultra-high-throughput decoder architecture for NB-LDPC codes based on the Hybrid Extended Min-Sum algorithm. We introduce a new processing block that updates a check node and its associated variable nodes in a fully pipelined way, th ...

Spending an uncontrolled quantity and quality of time on digital news and social media platforms can negatively influence mental health and decrease cognitive abilities. In this paper, we propose a sequential news recommendation system employing deep reinf ...

In this paper, we describe a method to tackle data sparsity and create recommendations in domains with limited knowledge about user preferences. We expand the variational autoencoder collaborative filtering from a single-domain to a multi-domain setting. T ...

We propose a new class of efficient decoding algorithms for Reed-Muller (RM) codes over binary-input memoryless channels. The algorithms are based on projecting the code on its cosets, recursively decoding the projected codes (which are lower-order RM code ...

Real-time video transcoding has recently raised as a valid alternative to address the ever-increasing demand for video contents in servers' infrastructures in current multi-user environments. High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) makes efficient online trans ...

Delay-constrained streaming from a moving platform is of paramount importance for applications such as the remote control of drones, where a low-delay video stream is required in order to provide visual feedback to the pilot while providing high quality vi ...

The joint design of input constellation and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes to approach the symmetric capacity of the two-user Gaussian multiple access channel is studied. More specifically, multilevel coding is employed at each user to construct a h ...

In his landmark paper "A Mathematical Theory of Communication," the founding father of information theory and coding theory, Claude E. Shannon, established the largest rate at which reliable communication is possible and he revealed that the key to this re ...

Light field technology has recently been gaining traction in the research community. Several acquisition technologies have been demonstrated to properly capture light field information, and portable devices have been commercialized to the general public. H ...

Random codes based on quasigroups (RCBQ) are cryptcodes, i.e. they are error-correcting codes, which provide information security. Cut-Decoding and 4-Sets-Cut-Decoding algorithms for these codes are defined elsewhere. Also, the performance of these codes f ...

The concept of adaptivity is crucial in enterprise software systems with a large user base. Adaptive user interfaces (AUI) is an emerging research area that enables customized user experience based on user activities. Most of the existing studies that are ...

Since its invention in the 19th century, photography has allowed to create durable images of the world around us by capturing the intensity of light that flows through a scene, first analogically by using light-sensitive material, and then, with the advent ...

The JPEG committee (Joint Photographic Experts Group, formally known as ISO/IEC SC29 WG1) is currently in the process of standardizing JPEG XS, a new interoperable solution for low-latency, lightweight and visually lossless compression of image and video. ...

Polar codes are capacity-achieving error-correcting codes with an explicit construction that can be decoded with low-complexity algorithms. In this work, we show how the state-of-the-art low-complexity decoding algorithm can be improved to better accommoda ...

At the core of the contribution of this dissertation there is an augmented reality (AR) environment, StaticAR, that supports the process of learning the fundamentals of statics in vocational classrooms, particularly in carpentry ones. Vocational apprentice ...

Polar codes are a recently proposed class of block codes that provably achieve the capacity of various communication channels. They received a lot of attention as they can do so with low-complexity encoding and decoding algorithms, and they have an explici ...

Augmented reality, interactive navigation in 3D scenes, multiview video, and other emerging multimedia applications require large sets of images, hence larger data volumes and increased resources compared with traditional video services. The significant in ...
