In a recent article entitled "Solubility Parameter of Carbon Dioxide-an Enigma"[1], Marcus reported the literature values for the solubility parameter of liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) at 298 K with discrepancies as large as 200%. An analogous article on ioni ...

The surface of aqueous solutions of simple salts was not the main focus of scientific attention for a long while. Considerable interest in studying such systems has only emerged in the past two decades, following the pioneering finding that large halide io ...

The world needs to move from a fossil fuel to a renewable energy based society. With the increasing electricity production from wind and PV, short and long term energy storage are becoming one of challenge of the 21st century. While batteries are the prefe ...

Water-in-salt electrolytes have enabled the development of novel high-voltage aqueous lithium-ion batteries. This study explores the reasons why analogous sodium electrolytes have struggled to reach the same level of electrochemical stability. Solution str ...

Helium nanodroplets are liquid, finite size, nanoscale helium clusters that have been employed since the 1990s as a matrix for high-resolution spectroscopy of molecules. Spectroscopic studies of ionic species inside helium droplets were not however realise ...

“Switchable water” is an aqueous solution containing a water‐soluble amine additive that exhibits CO2‐switchable properties, such as large changes in ionic strength, by forming an ammonium bicarbonate salt. Switchable water has been used to reversibly “sal ...

Platinum nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized in situ in the ionic liquid (IL) [Emim]NTf2 (1-ethyl-3- methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) as well as in mixtures of [Emim]NTf2 with a second IL, Lewis acid or Brønsted acid, but in the absenc ...

Strategies for forming liquid dispersions of nanomaterials typically focus on retarding reaggregation, for example via surface modification, as opposed to promoting the thermodynamically driven dissolution common for molecule-sized species. Here we demonst ...

The reactions of the tetrasiloxide U(III) complexes [U(OSi(OtBu)3)4K] and [U(OSi(OtBu)3)4][K18c6] with 0.5 equiv. of triphenylphosphine sulfide led to reductive S-transfer reactions, affording the U(IV) sulfide complexes [SU(OSi(OtBu)3)4K2]2, 1, and [{SU(O ...

Hydrogen bonding in ionic liquids based on the 1-(2'-hydroxylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium cation (C(2)OHmim) and various anions (A) of differing H-bond acceptor strength, viz. hexafluorophosphate PF6, tetrafluoroborate BF4, bis-(trifluoro ...

Several hydrophobic long-chain quaternary ammonium and phosphonium ionic liquids (ILs) with functionalized aromatic anions were prepared following a metathesis route using tricaprylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat 336) and trihexyl(tetradecyl) phosphonium ...

A large series of ionic liqs. (ILs) based on the weakly coordinating alkoxyaluminate [Al(hfip)4]- (hfip: hexafluoroisopropoxy) with classical as well as functionalized cations were prepd., and their principal phys. properties detd. M.ps. are between 0 ([C4 ...

Reaction of the zwitterionic imidazolium salt [(CH2COOH)(CH2COO)i.m.] with K2CO3 or BaO in the presence of 18-crown-6 affords the salts [(CH2COO)2i.m.][K(18-crown-6)] and [(CH2COO)2i.m.]2[Ba(18-crown-6)]. Recrystn. of these crown complexes from the ionic l ...

The anal. of potential energy surfaces of ion pairs within the framework of an anharmonic oscillator model allows rationalization and prediction of m.ps. (Tmp) and heat capacities (Cp) of ionic liqs. (ILs) comprising di- and trialkylimidazolium or tetraalk ...

In this study, we investigated the tetraalkylammonium salts of the weakly coordinating fluorinated alkoxyaluminates pftb (Al(O(C(CF3)(3))(4)) hfip (Al(OC(H)-(CF3)(2))(4)) and hftb (Al(OC(CH3)(-) (CF3)(2))(4)) in order to obtai ...

Monodispersed Pd nanoparticles of 5 and 10 nm were obtained via reduction of Pd(acac)2 dissolved in ionic liquid (IL), [bmim][PF6], or [bmimOH][TF2N], supported on carbon nanofibers (CNF) anchored to sintered metal fibers (SMF). Using [bmimOH][TF2N], the m ...

The mol. vol. Vm (i.e., the sum of the ionic vols. Vion of the constituent ions) of an ionic liq. (IL) in combination with an anion-dependent empirical relationship is all one needs to predict phys. properties such as viscosity, cond., and d. of [N(CN)2]-, ...

Dehydrohalogenation of haloaromatics in ionic liquids derived from ethylmethylimidazolium or similar salts has been performed using Pd-C, Pd(OAc)2 and other catalysts using formate salts as a hydrogen source. In the ionic liquid [emim][BF4< ...

With the purpose of assessing the reactivity of chloride ions dissolved in ionic liquids (ILs), a relative scale for the solvation of chloride is given for a series of ILs based on the bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide ([Tf2N]) anion and differen ...

Structured supported ionic liquid-phase (SSILP) catalysis is a new concept with the advantages of ionic liquids (ILs) used as solvents for homogeneous catalyst and the further benefits of structured heterogeneous catalysts. This is achieved by confining th ...
