The radiation-pressure interaction between one or more laser fields and a mechanical oscillator gives rise to a wide range of phenomena: From sideband cooling and backaction-evading measurements to ponderomotive and mechanical squeezing to entanglement and ...

Simulations of plasma turbulence in a lower single-null magnetic configurations are presented. The plasma dynamics is modelled by the drift-reduced two-fluid Braginskii equations that are coupled with a kinetic model for a single neutral species that consi ...

In this paper, we review the current state and discuss new developments in opto-optical modulation (OOM) of semiconductor elements for frequency comb self-referenced stabilization of ultrafast lasers. This method has been successfully used for carrier-enve ...

A search for leptoquarks produced singly and in pairs in proton-proton collisions is presented. We consider the leptoquark (LQ) to be a scalar particle of charge -1/3e coupling to a top quark plus a tau lepton (t tau) or a bottom quark plus a neutrino (b n ...

An integrated electronic-photonic phase-locked loop (PLL) modulates the frequency of a tunable laser for use in frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) lidar 3D imaging. The proposed lidar can perform 180k range measurements per second. The rms depth pr ...

Second harmonic generation microscopy is used to image interfaces or non-centrosymmetric structures and molecules. Two-photon fluorescence microscopy can image molecules within cells without using markers. Thus those technics have lead to advances in our u ...

Sensing of atmospheric trace gases is crucial for climate monitoring and to predict global climate changes. The required global coverage and spatial resolution have driven the studies of space-borne differential absorption lidar (DIAL) instruments to remot ...

IrMn(3)thin films were experimentally characterized by thermoelectric power and resistivity as a function of temperature and sample thickness. The Seebeck coefficient shows strong temperature dependence and the value increases with temperature up to 350 K. ...

Soliton microcombs constitute chip-scale optical frequency combs, and have the potential to impact a myriad of applications from frequency synthesis and telecommunications to astronomy. The demonstration of soliton formation via self-injection locking of t ...

Temporal-dissipative Kerr solitons are self-localized light pulses sustained in driven nonlinear optical resonators. Their realization in microresonators has enabled compact sources of coherent optical frequency combs as well as the study of dissipative so ...

Passive Kerr cavities driven by coherent laser fields display a rich landscape of nonlinear physics, including bistability, pattern formation, and localized dissipative structures (solitons). Their conceptual simplicity has for several decades offered an u ...

This paper reports an algorithm to automatically identify the chain of events leading to a disruption, evaluating the so-called reference warning time. This time separates the plasma current flat-top of each disrupted discharge into two parts: a non-disrup ...

Octave-spanning, self-referenced frequency combs are applied in diverse fields ranging from precision metrology to astrophysical spectrometer calibration. The octave-spanning optical bandwidth is typically generated through non-linear spectral broadening o ...

DNA nanotechnology has emerged as a promising method for designing spontaneously inserting and fully controllable synthetic ion channels. However, both insertion efficiency and stability of existing DNA-based membrane channels leave much room for improveme ...

Self-referencing turns pulsed laser systems into self-referenced frequency combs. Such frequency combs allow counting of optical frequencies and have a wide range of applications. The required optical bandwidth to implement self-referencing is typically ob ...

We demonstrate a chip-scale 30 GHz single soliton microcomb based on DFB laser locked to a Si3N4 microresonator. We propose novel theoretical and experimental approaches to explain dynamics of self-injection locking, modified by Kerr nonlinearity. (c) 2020 ...

This thesis presents results of a research on unidirectional isolator-free cavity lasers, exploiting thulium-doped fiber (TDF) as amplification medium and operating in \unit[2]{\mu m} wavelength range. For fibre ring resonator, an optical isolator should b ...

Recently, perovskite solar cells (PSC) with high power-conversion efficiency (PCE) and long-term stability have been achieved by employing 2D perovskite layers on 3D perovskite light absorbers. However, in-depth studies on the material and the interface be ...

Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are surface electromagnetic modes that propagate at the interface between a multilayer substrate and a homogeneous external medium. The optical field of the surface mode is confined near the surface of the multilayer. This vertic ...

Machine learning encompasses tools and algorithms that are now becoming popular in almost all scientific and technological fields. This is true for molecular dynamics as well, where machine learning offers promises of extracting valuable information from t ...
