Information theory has allowed us to determine the fundamental limit of various communication and algorithmic problems, e.g., the channel coding problem, the compression problem, and the hypothesis testing problem. In this work, we revisit the assumptions ...

5G New Radio (NR) has stringent demands on both performance and complexity for the design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding algorithms and corresponding VLSI implementations. Furthermore, decoders must fully support the wide range of all 5G NR bl ...

Due to its high parallelism, belief propagation (BP)decoding is amenable to high-throughput applications and thusrepresents a promising solution for the ultra-high peak datarate required by future communication systems. To bridge theperformance gap compare ...

We discuss how the combination of experimental observations and rapid modeling has enabled to improve understanding of the tokamak ramp-down phase in ASDEX Upgrade. A series of dedicated experiments has been performed, to disentangle the effect of individu ...

There is a bias in the inference pipeline of most diffusion models. This bias arises from a signal leak whose distribution deviates from the noise distribution, creating a discrepancy between training and inference processes. We demonstrate that this signa ...

Rapid inter-discharge simulation and optimization using the RAPTOR code have allowed the development of a reliable and reproducible early heating strategy for an advanced tokamak (AT) scenario on ASDEX Upgrade. Solving for electron heat and current diffusi ...

Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoder is among the power hungry building blocks of wireless communication systems. Voltage scaling down to Near-Threshold (NT) voltages substantially improves energy efficiency, in theory up 10x. However, tuning the voltag ...

In the last decade, DNA has been increasingly investigated as an alternative medium for cold data storage, presenting several advantages over standard hard drives such as a higher density, longer lifespan and lower energy consumption. However, such coding ...

Commitment is a key primitive which resides at the heart of several cryptographic protocols. Noisy channels can help realize information-theoretically secure commitment schemes; however, their imprecise statistical characterization can severely impair such ...

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) using camera-based imaging has shown excellent potential recently in vital signs monitoring due to its contactless nature. However, the optimum filter selection for pre-processing rPPG data in signal conditioning is still ...

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond is a powerful and versatile quantum sensor for diverse quantities. In particular, relaxometry (or T1), can be used to detect magnetic noise at the nanoscale. For experiments with single NV centers the analysis of ...

The observations from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) will significantly increase the numbers of known extremely metal-poor stars by a factor of similar to 10, improving the sample statistics to study the early chemical evolution of the Mil ...

This paper proposes a novel method to improve georeferencing of airborne laser scanning by improved trajectory estimation using Vehicle Dynamic Model. In Vehicle Dynamic Model (VDM), the relationship between the dynamics of the platform and control inputs ...

The beginning of 21st century provided us with many answers about how to reach the channel capacity. Polarization and spatial coupling are two techniques for achieving the capacity of binary memoryless symmetric channels under low-complexity decoding algor ...

The recently introduced polar codes constitute a breakthrough in coding theory due to their capacity-achieving property. This goes hand in hand with a quasilinear construction, encoding, and successive cancellation list decoding procedures based on the Plo ...

Previous works on age of information and erasure channels have dealt with specific models and computed the average age or average peak age for certain settings. In this paper, given a source that produces a letter every T-s seconds and an erasure channel t ...

Locally correctable codes (LCCs) are error correcting codes C : \Sigmak \rightarrow \Sigman which admit local algorithms that correct any individual symbol of a corrupted codeword via a minuscule number of queries. For systematic codes, this notion is stro ...

This paper investigates the problem of secret key generation from correlated Gaussian random variables in the short blocklength regime. Short blocklengths are commonly employed in massively connected IoT sensor networks in 5G and beyond wireless systems. P ...

Compared with the bit-wise successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding of polar codes, the node-based Fast SCL decoding significantly reduces the decoding latency by identifying special constituent codes and decoding these in parallel. To further reduce th ...

Since polar were ratified as part of the 5G standard, low-complexity polar decoders with close-to-optimum error-rate performance have received significant attention. Compared to successive cancellation (SC) decoding, both SC list and SC flip decoding can i ...
