The rapid renal clearance of peptides in vivo limits this attractive platform for the treatment of a broad range of diseases that require prolonged drug half-lives. An intriguing approach for extending peptide circulation times works through a 'piggy-back' ...

We measured, by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, the electronic structure of LiCu2O2, a mixed-valence cuprate where planes of Cu(I) (3d(10)) ions are sandwiched between layers containing one-dimensional edge-sharing Cu(II) (3d(9)) chains. We find ...

Most syntheses of thiolate-protected metal nanoparticles (NPs) include a thermochemical step in which the as-prepared, polydisperse NPs are transformed to a narrower size distribution in a poorly understood process known as digestive ripening (DR). Previou ...

Dative boron–nitrogen bonds can be used for the controlled assembly of boronate esters and N-donor ligands. So far, most investigations have focused on crystalline assemblies. In contrast, there are very few reports about soft materials based on dative B–N ...

The lifetimes T-LLS of long-lived states or T-LLC of long-lived coherences can be used for the accurate determination of dissociation constants of weak protein ligand complexes. The remarkable contrast between signals derived from LLS or LLC in free and bo ...

The detection of molecules that can bind to active sites of protein targets and the measurement of their affinities is a promising application of NMR. Nowadays, the screening of drug candidates is routinely done by NMR in pharmaceutical industry. We have p ...

Monoclonal antibodies have long in vivo half-lives and reach high concentrations in tumors but cannot access all regions in the tissue, whereas smaller ligands such as peptides distribute better but are limited by low concentrations due to fast renal clear ...

Photoswitchable ligands are used to control and study complex biological systems such as folding of proteins and peptides, enzymatic reactions or neuronal signaling. They are typically developed by conjugating photochromic compounds to known ligands so tha ...

It is known that excitation by visible light of the singlet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (1MLCT) states of Fe(II) complexes leads to population of the lowest-lying high-spin quintet state (T-5) with unity quantum yield. Here we investigate this so-calle ...

We present the crystal structures of the SEC14-like domain of supernatant protein factor (SPF) in complex with squalene and 2,3-oxidosqualene. The structures were resolved at 1.75 angstrom (complex with squalene) and 1.6 angstrom resolution (complex with 2 ...

The cyclopentadienyl (Cp) group is a very important ligand for many transition-metal complexes which have been applied in catalysis. The availability of chiral cyclopentadienyl ligands (Cp-x) lags behind other ligand classes, thus hampering the investigati ...

The preparation and characterization of a series of complexes of the Yb and Eu cations in the oxidation state II and III with the tetradentate N,O-donor tripodal ligands (tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TPA), BPA(-) (HBPA=bis(2-pyridylmethyl)(2-hydroxybenzyl)a ...

G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are important targets for treating severe diseases. However why certain molecules act as activators whereas others, with similar structures, block GPCR activation, is poorly understood since the same molecule can activat ...
