The auxiliary power supply for medium voltage converters requires high insulation capability between the source and the load. Inductive power transfer technology, with an air gap between the primary and secondary coil, offers such high insulation capabilit ...

A modular multiple frequency coils inductive link system to wirelessly provide power for at least a medical implant at an output of a receiving coil, whereby the receiving coil is configured to be implanted in an organism. The modular multiple frequency co ...

There are various possibilities to realize coil winding designs for an inductive power transfer system. In order to achieve high power transfer efficiency and power density and explore trade-offs between the two, design optimization around the coil link is ...

Inductive power transfer technology is an attractive solution for medium voltage applications by eliminating the need for high voltage cables or wired connections in general. This paper introduces an inductive power transfer system which has multiple indep ...

Nowadays, with the increased interest in applications dealing with high-power medium-voltage conversion, there is a strong need to master the design of medium-frequency transformers, which are one of the key components of modern DC transformers. The paper ...

In spite of the dominance of ac technology for the vast majority of power transmission and distribution since the late 19th century, the past decades have seen an increase in use of dc electrical power. In particular, this has been the case both in high vo ...

In this work, we demonstrate a state-of-the-art high step-up/down dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter designed with GaN transistors, to achieve a high efficiency and large power-density. A quasi-planar matrix transformer with high step-up/down ratio is demo ...

Novel high-power medium-voltage converter technologies offering galvanic insulation are needed to support the development of the emerging medium-voltage direct-current grids and further improve the performance of various other applications such as traction ...

Magnetic resonance imaging is widely used in medical diagnosis to obtain anatomical details of the human body in a non-invasive way. Clinical MR scanners typically operate at a static magnetic field strength (B0) of 1.5T or 3T. However, going to higher fie ...

Nowadays, there is a very high number of electronic devices with different ranges of power. Desktop peripherals and cellphones are an example of widely used low power devices. Contactless power transfer is useful to supply or recharge these devices without ...

Brown adipose fat tissue of a mouse dissipates the animal’s energy in the form of heat. Chronically recording the temperature of this tissue helps biologists to study the metabolism of the animal and gain new insights about the obesity in humans. Such temp ...

Inductive Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) is a widely used technique to transfer electrical power from a power supply to one or more load(s) without any physical link. Even with large airgaps between primary and secondary coils, a very high power transfer ef ...

With the advance in microelectronics and microsystems, better instruments in every domain are designed and built. For many years, scientists have tried to understand nature, and engineers to mimic the perfect design. One example of this is the human knee, ...

In the domain of electronic devices and especially desktop peripherals, there is an industrial trend which consists in removing the cables that pollute our domestic and professional environments. In this sense, wireless communication protocols are already ...

Brain-machine interfaces hold promise for restoring basic functions such as movement or speech for severely disabled patients, as well as for controlling neuroprosthetic devices for amputees. One of the major challenges of clinically viable neuroprostheses ...

Resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) and error field correction (EFC) produced by toroidally and poloidally distributed coil systems can be optimized if each coil is powered with an independent power supply. A 3D multi-mode geometry-independent Lagrange me ...

Europe is currently making a great effort in order to improve the sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of its energy and transportation systems. A key role on these initiatives is played by efficient generation systems, like cogeneration, and ...

The control of the current, position and shape of an elongated cross-section tokamak plasma is complicated by the so-called instability of the current vertical position. Linearized models all share the feature of a single unstable eigenmode, attributable t ...

Modern applications in industry, navigation and medicine demand small and sensitive magnetic field sensors. In this thesis we have developed a new planar micro fluxgate magnetometer. High resolution, low power consumption and orthogonal fields detection ma ...
