Temperature/strain cross sensitivity is a long-standing issue in Brillouin-based distributed sensors, impairing the reliability of such sensors. So far, all the proposed methods perform the discrimination by measuring two quantities showing distinct respon ...

The performance of the differential pulse-width pair Brillouin optical time domain analysis (DPP-BOTDA) is evaluated experimentally using either the gain from log normalization or linear normalization for the subtraction of traces collected with pump pulse ...

Many molecule bonds have vibration frequencies in the mid-infrared band. Thus, this band is of great interest to molecular spectroscopy, material processing and medical applications. However, many optical materials typically used for laser sources experien ...

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) is commonly employed to integrate third-order nonlinear optical processes on a chip. Its amorphous state, however, inhibits significant second-order nonlinear response. Recently, second-harmonic generation enhancement has been obser ...

In this paper, a highly-sensitive distributed shape sensor based on a multicore fiber (MCF) and phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (φ-OTDR) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The implemented system features a high strain sensitivit ...

Scanning Near-field Optical Microscopy (SNOM) technique enables to overcome Abbe diffraction limit of far-field optics as well as to obtain simultaneously optical and topographical images. While the optical resolution of the method is limited by the apertu ...

We achieve unprecedented nonlinear optical amplification in gas. The gain is 20 times larger than any reported nonlinear gain in gas-filled HC-PCF and 6 times larger than the largest nonlinear gain in standard silica single-mode fiber (SMF). Furthermore, o ...

Linear and nonlinear two-dimensional image processing approaches are analyzed with the aim of removing noise from data acquired by distributed optical fiber sensors based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA). The impact of the filter parameter ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

The performance of unipolar unicolor coded Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA) is evaluated based on both Simplex and Golay codes. Four major detrimental factors that limit the system performance, including decoded-gain trace distortion, coding ...

We exploit backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in gases to achieve unprecedented nonlinear optical amplification in fibers. The gain coefficient is 10 times larger than any reported nonlinear gain in gas-filled HC-PCF and 6 times larger than the large ...
