A first search at LHCb for the lepton-flavour-violating decays B 0 → K *0 τ ± e ∓ is presented. The analysis is performed using a sample of proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV between 2016 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb − 1 . No significant signal is observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions are determined to be $ \mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}^{\ast 0}{\tau}^{-}{e}^{+}\right)

Motivation The increasing amount of plastic debris in the oceans calls for quick action to prevent irreversibly damaging our world's largest ecosystem. To this end, tracking plastic debris and understanding its dynamics could facilitate collection campaigns and help monitor the evolution of the threat. To achieve this goal, accurate models are necessary to predict the dynamics of floating objects at the ocean surface, which are subject to currents and winds. Physical models and remote sensing data estimate

The rapid growth of edge computing, wearable electronics, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications is driving demand for microsystems that can locally perform data processing, storage, and intelligent decision-making. These systems must be compact, energy-efficient, and capable of integrating multiple functions within strict area and power constraints . Conventional architectures that physically separate energy storage, memory, and logic increasingly face limitations in footprint, latency, and efficiency.

This paper reviews four critical mechanisms for successful applications of hydraulic fracturing that have emerged or grown in importance over the past 2 decades. These critical issues are managing height growth, decreasing near-wellbore tortuosity, predicting and engineering network versus localized growth geometry, and promoting simultaneous growth of multiple hydraulic fractures. Building on the foundation of decades of research relevant to each area but with an emphasis on advances within the past 20 yea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is one of the main sleep disorders, but only 10% of the cases are diagnosed. Moreover, there is a lack of tools for long-term monitoring of OSA, since current systems are too bulky and intrusive to be used continuously. In this context, recent studies have shown that it is possible to detect it automatically based on single- lead ECG recordings. This approach can be used in non-invasive smart wearable sensors which measure and process bio-signals online. This work focuses on th

Poster Hall The Lake Geneva current field is controlled by a variable wind field and thermal stratification. Typical current patterns in the Grand Lac which is oriented roughly in the East-West direction were determined under real time wind conditions and thermal stratifications using the DELFT3D-FLOW hydrodynamic model. The model solves the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations, combined with a k-ε turbulence closure in σ (lakebed-following) coordinates. The model was forced by a space-time dependent w

Convective cells for turbulence control, generated by means of biased electrodes, are investigated in the simple magnetized toroidal plasmas of TORPEX. A two-dimensional array of 24 electrodes is installed on a metal limiter to test different biasing schemes. This allows influencing significantly both radial and vertical blob velocities. It is shown that these changes agree quantitatively with the flows deduced from the time averaged potential perturbations induced by the biasing. Detailed measurements alon

Intermittent blobs, which propagate across a confining magnetic fields, are universally observed in natural and laboratory plasmas. In fusion plasmas, cross-field transport of particles and energy are associated, at least in part, with the propagation of blobs, which are therefore of great importance for the design of future fusion reactors. In TORPEX, blobs are generated from ideal interchange modes and, driven by B and curvature-induced charge separation, propagate radially outwards. An analytical blob s

This work describes a novel system for speaker diarization of meetings recordings based on the combination of acoustic features (MFCC) and Time Delay of Arrivals (TDOA). The first part of the paper analyzes differences between MFCC and TDOA features which possess completely different statistical properties. When Gaussian Mixture Models are used, experiments reveal that the diarization system is sensitive to the different recording scenarios (i.e. meeting rooms with varying number of microphones). In the sec

In this paper we report the fabrication and detailed electrical characterization of a Metal-Ferroelectric-Oxide-Semiconductor Capacitor aiming at the extraction of the polarization characteristic. In order to evaluate the electrical performances of the ferroelectric over SiO2 capacitor, we propose a simple device test structure featuring an intermediate contact between the two insulators. The investigated test structures are fabricated on highly doped silicon with a gate stack including 40nm silicon dioxide

The goal of the project is to explore the possibility of controlling the speed of the actuator’s moving part without using any sensor. The speed has to be set accordingly to the position of the moving part at specific time. This dependency is fixed and is provided by the industrial partner as a result of measurements, estimations and modeling. Sensorless detection means that the current needed to be applied to the coil in order to close the contacts, will also be the only feedback information for estimating

In this work, a detailed analysis of capacitance behavior of high voltage MOSFET (HV-MOS) e.g. LDMOS, VDMOS using device simulation is made. The impact of lateral non-uniform doping and drift region is separately analyzed. It is shown that the peaks in C-GD and C-GS capacitances of HV-MOS originate from lateral non-uniform doping. The drift region decreases the C-GD capacitance and increases the peaks in CGS and also gives rise to peaks in C-GG capacitances increasing with higher drain bias. It is also show

Anticipation increases the efficiency of a daily task by partial advance activation of neural substrates involved in it. Single trial recognition of this activation can be exploited for a novel anticipation based Brain Computer Interface (BCI). In the current work we compare different methods for the recognition of Electroencephalogram (EEG) correlates of this activation on single trials as a first step towards building such a BCI. To do so, we recorded EEG from 9 subjects performing a classical Contingent

With the very high electron cyclotron (EC) wave power density achieved in the TCV tokamak, more than 20 MW m(-3), quasilinear modelling predicts an electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) efficiency well in excess to the experimental value, by up to a factor of 10. Experimentally, radial transport of suprathermal electrons consistent with a diffusion coefficient larger than 1.5 m(2) s(-1) has been observed. This implies that the radial transport time is of the same order as the electron deflection time, sug

Since 1991, a broadband, high-resolution current measurement system has captured the lightning current derivative at the Toronto CN Tower. In this paper, extensive statistics (1992-2001) of CN Tower lightning current waveform parameters (maximum steepness and peak) are compared with waveform parameters of currents recorded at other elevated objects, including rockets trailing conducting wires. The influence of the height of the struck object on waveform parameters is analyzed. The paper focuses on the compa

In this PhD thesis we deal with two mathematical problems arising from quantum mechanics. We consider a spinless non relativistic quantum particle whose configuration space is a two dimensional surface S. We also suppose that the particle feels the effect of an homogeneous magnetic field perpendicular to the surface S. In the first case S = R × SL1, the infinite cylinder of circumference L, corresponding to periodic boundary conditions, while in the second one S = R2. In both cases the particle feels the ef

This paper presents results from numerical modelling of non-twisted multifilamentary Bi-2223/Ag conductors with various geometry and filament arrangement. New anisotropic models of Jc(B) and n(B) have been employed in finite element method simulations under different operating conditions – with applied AC transport current, in external parallel and perpendicular AC magnetic field, and with combined current and field of varying orientation. AC losses, as well as current and magnetic flux densities in square

Pyrochlore free Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3 (PMN) thin films were prepared from alkoxide-based solution precursors. The influence of different seeding layers and chemical solution on the microstructures is shown. Dielectric, electrostrictive, and piezoelectric properties of the films were characterized in detail. Films show relaxor-like behavior, but with dielectric permittivity which is low (around 4000 at peak) compared to bulk ceramics and single crystals. Several parameters which might be responsible for this low

A section of the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) conductor, left from the winding of the Central Solenoid Model Coil, was tested for stability under pulsed transverse field in the SULTAN facility, at background field up to 11 T and dc current up to 100 kA. The test was repeated at a broad range of operating temperature and for different current distribution in the strand bundle. The ability to withstand transverse field transients is compared with the predicted energy margin. For lar

Capacitors in metal-insulator-metal structure have been fabricated with different bottom electrodes. It has been found that the observed losses are enormous at gigahertz frequencies unless due care is taken not only for the conductivity of the bottom electrode but also its thickness. Very thin bottom electrodes (thickness similar to 100 nm) modify the dielectric response substantially and major loss contributions arise from the substrate, the electrode resistance, and the contacts. A simple approach is sugg
