The scale and pervasiveness of the Internet make it a pillar of planetary communication, industry and economy, as well as a fundamental medium for public discourse and democratic engagement. In stark contrast with the Internet's decentralized infrastructur ...

In this paper, we present an exact (i. e. non-approximated) and linear measurement model for hybrid AC/DC microgrids for recursive state estimation (SE). More specifically, an exact linear model of a voltage source converter (VSC) is proposed. It relies on ...

Today, automatic control is integrated into a wide spectrum of real-world systems such as electrical grids and transportation networks. Many of these systems comprise numerous interconnected agents, perform safety-critical operations, or generate large amo ...

Submodular functions are a widely studied topic in theoretical computer science. They have found several applications both theoretical and practical in the fields of economics, combinatorial optimization and machine learning. More recently, there have also ...

In recent years, power systems have evolved in physical and cyber-physical layers. In the physical layer, the changes are motivated by environmental concerns resulting in the integration of new types of generation/demand/storage into the grid. These integr ...

In this paper, we present an exact (i.e. non-approximated) and linear measurement model for hybrid AC/DC micro-grids for recursive state estimation (SE). More specifically, an exact linear model of a voltage source converter (VSC) is proposed. It relies on ...

This work presents an optimization framework to aggregate the power and energy flexibilities in an interconnected power distribution systems. The aggregation framework is used to compute the day-ahead dispatch plans of multiple and interconnected distribut ...

This thesis focuses on the maximum matching problem in modern computational settings where the algorithms have to make decisions with partial information. First, we consider two stochastic models called query-commit and price-of-information where the algo ...

This paper presents a data-driven multivariable Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) controller design method. The synthesis process is based on frequency-domain data corresponding to different operating points of the plant. The performance and also stability co ...

The high penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) charging stations (CSs), together with the progressive availability of distributed energy resources, increases the risk of grid overloading and power-quality degradation. Real-time control has been advocated ...

A major concern associated to the massive connection of distributed energy resources is the increasing share of power electronic interfaces resulting in the global inertia reduction of power systems. The recent literature advocated the use of voltage sourc ...

In this paper, reactive power sharing for Photovoltaic (PV) units in islanded microgrids has been formulated as a robust control design problem and is solved using convex optimization method. In addition to reactive power sharing, the disturbance rejection ...

This paper presents a comprehensive data-driven distributed combined primary/secondary controller design method for microgrids. This method provides transient and steady-state performance including power-sharing and voltage and frequency restoration while ...

We present a novel anytime heuristic (ALMA), inspired by the human principle of altruism, for solving the assignment problem. ALMA is decentralized, completely uncoupled, and requires no communication between the participants. We prove an upper bound on th ...

In this paper, we investigate the stability of an islanded AC microgrid (ImG) composed of Distributed generation units (DGUs), dynamic power lines, and loads. Each DGU is equipped with a local controller to ensure desired voltage and frequency in the ImG. ...

Consider the problem of constructing a polar code of block length N for a given transmission channel W. Previous approaches require one to compute the reliability of the N synthetic channels and then use only those that are sufficiently reliable. However, ...

The energy transition's ultimate goal is to meet energy demand from human activities sustainably. Accordingly, the penetration of new renewable energy sources (RES) such as photovoltaic panels and wind turbines is increasing in most power grids. In their c ...

In this work, we propose a supervisory control structure in islanded DC microgrids such that a well scheduled and balanced utilization of various resources is achieved. Our supervisory control layer rests on top of a voltage-controlled primary layer and co ...

In this thesis we give new algorithms for two fundamental graph problems. We develop novel ways of using linear programming formulations, even exponential-sized ones, to extract structure from problem instances and to guide algorithms in making progress. S ...

Situational-awareness methods and technologies are crucial elements to ensure power systems reliability and security as they are used by automated decision-making processes of mission-critical applications. Inadequate system monitoring results in incorrect ...
