Gels made of telechelic polymers connected by reversible cross-linkers are a versatile design platform for biocompatible viscoelastic materials. Their linear response to a step strain displays a fast, near-exponential relaxation when using low-valence cros ...

The synthesis and control of properties of p-type ZnO is crucial for a variety of optoelectronic and spintronic applications; however, it remains challenging due to the control of intrinsic midgap (defect) states. In this study, we demonstrate a synthetic ...

We examine the influence of surface charge on the percolation, gel-point and phase behavior of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) suspensions in relation to their nonlinear rheological material response. Desulfation decreases CNC surface charge density which lead ...

This study examines the role of cavitation in drying cementitious materials. Classical nucleation theory is used to understand and study the parameters that influence cavitation pressures. The water desorption isotherms indicate that both heterogeneous and ...

This thesis investigates the water vapour sorption behaviour of samples with maximized calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H) content. Primarily, the role of heterogeneous and homogeneous cavitation has been studied during the drying of cementitious materials. C ...

Novel supramolecular gelators based on quinoline-indolin-2-one structure were synthesized. These gelators formed stable organogels in a mixture of DMSO/H2O (1:1). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), IR and NMR spectroscopies, and rheological measuremen ...

Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are among the few photostable optical emitters that are ideal for sensing, imaging, drug delivery, and monitoring of protein activity. These applications often require strategies for immobilizing prote ...

The effect of increasing sulfate contents on the hydration of white cement was studied with a multi-technique approach. Quantitative X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) revealed that adding more gypsum in the cement resulted in more ettringite formation. Combining iso ...

The development of multifunctional encapsulation biomaterials could help the translation of cell‐based therapies into standard medical care. One of the major hurdles in the field of encapsulated cell transplantation is the current lack of materials present ...

By a micro-experimental methodology, we study the ongoing molecular process inside coarse fibrin networks by means of microrheology. We made these networks gelate around a probe microbead, allowing us to observe a temporal evolution compatible with the wel ...

This study aims to investigate the change with temperature of the water content of the C-(A)-S-H of plain cement (PC) and Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). The water content was determined by various methods: thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), H-1-nucle ...

H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry, supported by X-Ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis, has been used to characterise microstructure of white cement pastes underwater cured at temperatures in the range 10 degrees C to 60 degrees C. ...

The mobility of water within the microstructure of hardened cement paste has been at the center of a long-lasting debate, motivated by the need to understand the fundamental mechanisms that play a role in drying, shrinkage, creep, and thermal expansion. Ou ...

Secondary transporters exist as monomers, dimers or higher state oligomers. The significance of the oligomeric state is only partially understood. Here, the significance of the trimeric state of the L-carnitine/gamma-butyrobetaine antiporter CaiT of Escher ...

The most basic function of synthetic microenvironments for tissue engineering is to act as a physical substrate for cell attachment, migration, and proliferation, similar to the natural cell environment. Functionalization of supramolecular materials with g ...

The hydration of an ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) paste with a water to cement ratio of 0.18 was followed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) alongside more classical techniques for hydration kinetics, and microstructu ...

At low pH, underwater adherence between poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) hydrogels and poly(acrylic acid) brushes is due to the formation of multiple hydrogen bonds. The effect of the key parameters controlling the formation of these interactions (contact time ...

Catalyst overcoating is an emerging approach to engineer surface functionalities on supported metal catalyst and improve catalyst selectivity and durability. Alumina deposition on high surface area material by sol–gel chemistry is traditionally difficult t ...

This paper is a discussion of a recent publication by Sekkal and coworkers, which investigated the elasticity, cohesion, and stability of the C-S-H (001) surface as a function of porosity using molecular dynamics simulations. In our discussion, we highligh ...

This paper shows how MIP measurements can give an accurate picture of the capillary porosity of cement pastes. Regions of the intrusion curves can be identified corresponding to capillary or gel pores. The amount of capillary pores is in excellent agreemen ...
