Decentralized storage networks offer services with intriguing possibilities to reduce inequalities in an extremely centralized market. Fair distribution of rewards, however, is still a persistent problem in the current generation of decentralized applicati ...

In 1948, Claude Shannon laid the foundations of information theory, which grew out of a study to find the ultimate limits of source compression, and of reliable communication. Since then, information theory has proved itself not only as a quest to find the ...

Peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing may foster sustainability synergistically by saving resources, reducing costs and promoting satisfaction of consumer needs and social connectivity. A survey of Swiss and Swedish consumers (N = 1522) was conducted to analyze drive ...

In-network devices around the world monitor and tamper with connections for many reasons, including intrusion prevention, combating spam or phishing, and country-level censorship. Connection tampering seeks to block access to specific domain names or keywo ...

Peer-to-peer (p2p) networks are not independent of their peers, and the network efficiency depends on peers contributing resources. Because shared resources are not free, this contribution must be rewarded. Peers across the network may share computation po ...

Design exploration is a creative process that consists of the incremental generation of design candidates. Supported by digital means or not, the process handles the ill-structured nature of design and allows creativity to flourish through diversity of des ...

In this paper, we tackle the problem of static 3D cloth draping on virtual human bodies. We introduce a two-stream deep network model that produces a visually plausible draping of a template cloth on virtual 3D bodies by extracting features from both the b ...

Datacenters are the heart of our digital lives. Online applications, such as social-networking and e-commerce, run inside datacenters under strict Service Level Objectives for their tail latency. Tight latency SLOs are necessary for such services to remain ...

Video streaming from remotely controlled moving platforms such as drones have stringent constraints in terms of delay. In some applications such videos have to provide real-time visual feedback to the pilot with an acceptable distortion while satisfying hi ...

The intrinsic high entropy metadata, known as quality scores, are largely the cause of the substantial size of sequence data files. Yet, there is no consensus on a viable reduction of the resolution of the quality score scale, arguably because of collatera ...

This work presents and studies a distributed algorithm for solving optimization problems over networks where agents have individual costs to minimize subject to subspace constraints that require the minimizers across the network to lie in a low-dimensional ...

Current online applications, such as search engines, social networks, or file sharing services, execute across a distributed network of machines. They provide non-stop services to their users despite failures in the underlying network. To achieve such a hi ...

The amount of transmitted data in computer networks is expected to grow considerably in the future, putting more and more pressure on the network infrastructures. In order to guarantee a good service, it then becomes fundamental to use the network resource ...

In this paper, we propose a new graph-based coding framework and illustrate its application to image compression. Our approach relies on the careful design of a graph that optimizes the overall rate-distortion performance through an effective graph-based t ...

Today's Internet is not transparent: when packets get lost or delayed, there is typically no information about where the problem occurred, hence no information about who is responsible. This results in Internet service providers (ISPs) offering service lev ...

This work studies the problem of inferring from streaming data whether an agent is directly influenced by another agent over an adaptive network of interacting agents. Agent i influences agent j if they are connected, and if agent j uses the information fr ...

In contrary to traditional media streaming services where a unique media content is delivered to different users, interactive multiview navigation applications enable users to choose their own viewpoints and freely navigate in a three-dimensional scene. Th ...

Multiparty videoconferences, or more generally multiparty video calls, are gaining a lot of popularity as they offer a rich communication experience. These applications have however, large requirements in terms of both network and computational resources a ...

Caching at edge servers can smooth the temporal traffic variability and reduce the service load of base stations in wireless streaming. However, the assignment of the cached content for possibly multiple versions of different video sequences is still a cha ...

Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a novel approach to building computer networks. Improved flexibility, simplified management and cost reduction promised by SDN makes many see it as the future of networking. The main insight of SDN is the separation of ...
