Public policy evaluation has traditionally been conducted in a context constrained by legal, institutional and political red tape. The arrival of digitalisation adds a new layer to public policy evaluation processes. Assessing the quality of technologies, ...

Stream periphytons are candidate ecosystem engineers in proglacial margins. Here, we quantify the extent to which they are engineers for the case of hillslope-fed tributaries in the terrace zones of proglacial margin alluvial plains. Candidate ecosystem en ...

File formats are described in read_me files in the concerning folder. For plotting and data evaluation, Python 2.7 was used. Example scripts for plotting are provided. ...

The Qiangtang Basin is a large endorheic basin in the inner part of the Tibetan Plateau and has been thought to be a dry region in contrast with its wet surrounding outer region that feeds all the major Asian rivers. Combining surface hydrological data wit ...

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Napoleonic administration introduced a new standardised description system to give an objective account of the form and functions of the city of Venice. The cadastre, deployed on a European scale, was offering for ...

This paper presents the results of a study performed in order to evaluate whether a navigation technique, based on scaling the user’s avatar, impacts the user’s ability to correctly assess the size of virtual objects in a virtual environment. This study wa ...

The shoulder is the joint with the largest range of motion in the human body. It is composed of three articulations, the glenohumeral articulation providing about two thirds of its mobility which is, also the most complex and fragile of the three. For this ...

We consider the problem of estimating the set of all inputs that leads a system to some particular behavior. The system is modeled by an expensive-to-evaluate function, such as a computer experiment, and we are interested in its excursion set, that is, the ...

The hierarchy of propositions has been accepted amongst the forensic science community for some time. It is also accepted that the higher up the hierarchy the propositions are, against which the scientist are competent to evaluate their results, the more d ...

Conventional ultrasound (US) imaging relies on delay-and-sum (DAS) beamforming which retrieves a radio- frequency (RF) image, a blurred estimate of the tissue reflectivity function (TRF). Despite the non-stationarity of the blur induced by propagation effe ...

Background: Preventive chemotherapy (PC), the large-scale administration of anthelminthics, is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the control of soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH). Since 2010, donated anthelminthics for STH have boost ...

Static estimation of resource utilisation of programs is a challenging and important problem with numerous applications. In this thesis, I present new algorithms that enable users to specify and verify their desired bounds on resource usage of functional p ...

In recent years, ride-hailing services (RHSs) have become increasingly popular, serving millions of users per day. Such systems, however, raise significant privacy concerns, because service providers are able to track the precise mobility patterns of all r ...

The broad objective of this study is to estimate the economic impact of changes in water availability due to climate change in Switzerland with a 2050 time horizon. To do so, the sectoral structure of the computable general equilibrium model GEMINI-E3 is b ...

This article introduces learning analytics dashboards that visualize learning traces for learners and teachers. We present a conceptual framework that helps to analyze learning analytics applications for these kinds of users. We then present our own work i ...

Worldwide, almost 50,000 dams over 15 m height have been built during the last six decades with an aggregated storage capacity of 6,000 km3. The fact that large dams, by increasing irrigation and hydroelectricity production, can sustain development and red ...

In this paper we propose to draw a link from the quantitative notion of coherence, previously used to evaluate rival scientific theories, to legal reasoning. We evaluate the stories of the plaintiff and the defendant in a legal case as rival theories by me ...

The purpose of evaluation procedures for haptic interfaces is to achieve both qualitative and quantitative statements on haptic rendering realism and performance. Since haptics technology is being increasingly used in computer games, surgical simulators, m ...

We investigate the propagation of temperature perturbations in an array of coupled nonlinear oscillators at finite temperature. We evaluate the response function at equilibrium and show how the memory effects affect the diffusion properties. A comparison w ...

An experimental method based on a falling pressure measurement is proposed to evaluate the through thickness air permeability of prepregs during cure, with two set-up variants. One concerns the measurement of the inherent air permeability and the other app ...
