The optical domain presents potential avenues for enhancing both computing and communication due to its inherent properties of bandwidth, parallelism, and energy efficiency. This research focuses on harnessing 3-Dimensional (3D) diffractive optics for nove ...

We demonstrate the use of both pixelated differential phase contrast (DPC) scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and off-axis electron holography (EH) for the measurement of electric fields and assess the advantages and limitations of each techn ...

Advancing quantum technologies depends on the precise control of individual quantum systems, the so-called qubits, and the exploitation of their quantum properties. Nowadays, expanding the number of qubits to be entangled is at the core of the developments ...

We propose a model order reduction technique to accurately approximate the behavior of multi-component systems without any a-priori knowledge of the coupled model. In the offline phase, we construct independent surrogate models by solving the local problem ...

Buildings are a promising source of flexibility for the application of demand response. In this work, we introduce a novel battery model formulation to capture the state evolution of a single building. Being fully data-driven, the battery model identificat ...

The European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) is one of the leading conferences in the field of optical communications and its related topics. The 48th edition took place from 18th-22nd September 2022 in Basel, Switzerland. The conference attrac ...

This work addresses the problem of learning the topology of a network from the signals emitted by the network nodes. These signals are generated over time through a linear diffusion process, where neighboring nodes exchange messages according to the underl ...

Human thermo-physiology models (HTPM) are useful tools to assess dynamic and non-uniform human thermal states. However, they are developed based on the physiological data of an average person. In this paper, we present a detailed evaluation of two sophisti ...

Me3+8Ge, being a Weyl semimetal, shows a large anomalous Hall effect (AHE), which decreases slowly with an increase in 8 from 0.1 to 0.4. However, AHE in this compound remains significantly large in the whole range of 8 because of the robust nature of the ...

Omnichannel retail has emerged as the new standard in today's commerce landscape, with retailers integrating their physical and online channels to enhance the customer shopping experience. However, such integration presents significant challenges for retai ...

Machine learning is often cited as a new paradigm in control theory, but is also often viewed as empirical and less intuitive for students than classical model-based methods. This is particularly the case for reinforcement learning, an approach that does n ...

Previously, space-time wave packets (STWPs) have been gen-erated in free space with reduced diffraction and a tunable group velocity by combining multiple frequency comb lines each carrying a single Bessel mode with a unique wave num-ber. It might be poten ...

We study experiment design for unique identification of the causal graph of a system where the graph may contain cycles. The presence of cycles in the structure introduces major challenges for experiment design as, unlike acyclic graphs, learning the skele ...

Silicon photonics has emerged as a mature technology that is expected to play a key role in critical emerging applications, including very high data rate optical communications, distance sensing for autonomous vehicles, photonic-accelerated computing, and ...

Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) which consist of microstructure surface relief permit the generation of the spatial distribution of light beams by using a single element. Due to their compact size, design flexibility, and mass productivity, they are us ...

Various forms of real-world data, such as social, financial, and biological networks, can be represented using graphs. An efficient method of analysing this type of data is to extract subgraph patterns, such as cliques, cycles, and motifs, from graphs. For ...

Diffractive optical elements are ultra-thin optical components required for a variety of applications because of their high design flexibility. We introduce a gradient-based optimization method based on a step-transition perturbation approach which is an e ...

Light coupling in waveguides has been extensively investigated in a variety of contexts, from photonic integrated circuits to biosensing and near-eye displays for augmented reality. Here, narrowband diffraction is reported using a Fano interference effect ...

Diamond is an exceptional material that has recently seen a remarkable increase in interest in academic research and engineering since high-quality substrates became commercially available and affordable. Exploiting the high refractive index, hardness, las ...

Structured light generation having broad applications in different optical fields, is the topic of this thesis. Our structured light generation strategy is based on applying periodic microoptical elements at the refraction-diffraction limit, under a focuse ...
