The Navier–Stokes equations play a key role in the modeling of blood flows in the vascular sys- tem. The cost for solving the 3D linear system obtained by Finite Element (FE) discretization of the equations, using tetrahedral unstructured meshes and time a ...

The modern expressions for polarization P and orbital magnetization M are k-space integrals. But a genuine bulk property should also be expressible in r space, as an unambiguous function of the ground-state density matrix, "nearsighted'' in insulators, ind ...

It has been shown recently that minute additions of Cr in Al-Zn alloys refine the solidified grain structure and induce multiply-twinned grains which can only be explained if the icosahedral symmetry is considered (Kurtuldu et al., 2013). It has been sugge ...

A numerical method based on an adaptive octree space discretization for the simulation of 3D free-surface fluid flows is proposed. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a time-splitting scheme, which decouples advection from diffusion/incompressibili ...

In this work we are interested in the numerical solution of the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for fluid flow in pipes with varying curvatures and cross-sections. We intend to compute a reduced basis approximation of the solution, employing ...

Following their detection and seizure by police and border guard authorities, false identity and travel documents are usually scanned, producing digital images. This research investigates the potential of these images to classify false identity documents, ...

Nowadays, one area of research in cryptanalysis is solving the Discrete Logarithm Problem (DLP) in finite groups whose group representation is not yet exploited. For such groups, the best one can do is using a generic method to attack the DLP, the fastest ...

In this paper we propose a new model reduction technique aimed at real-time blood flow simulations on a given family of geometrical shapes of arterial vessels. Our approach is based on the combination of a low-dimensional shape parametrization of the compu ...

In this paper we report the results of Monte-Carlo simulations performed on double-gate ballistic MOSFETs with a geometry such that the gates overlap only a fraction of the channel. We present a qualitative analysis of the simulation results highlighting t ...

This article is devoted to the study of an incompressible viscous flow of a fluid partly enclosed in a cylindrical container with an open top Surface and driven by the constant rotation of the bottom wall. Such type of flows belongs to a group of recircula ...

This paper extends the reduced basis method for the solution of parametrized optimal control problems presented in Negri et al. (2013) to the case of noncoercive (elliptic) equations, such as the Stokes equations. We discuss both the theoretical properties ...

The interaction between a fluid and a poroelastic structure is a complex problem that couples the Navier-Stokes equations with the Biot system. The finite element approximation of this problem is involved due to the fact that both subproblems are indefinit ...

The subject of this thesis lies in the intersection of differential geometry and functional analysis, a domain usually called global analysis. A central object in this work is the group Ds(M) of all orientation preserving diffeomorphisms of a compact manif ...

Many classical results concerning quadratic forms have been extended to Hermitian forms over algebras with involution. However, not much is known in the case of sesquilinear forms without any symmetry property. The present paper will establish a Witt cance ...

The purpose of this thesis is the study, from the numerical simulation point of view, of the aluminum electrolysis process. Navier-Stokes equations for the computation of a two fluids flow with free interface are coupled with Maxwell equations describing t ...

The core structures of < c + a > edge and screw dislocations in Mg are computed using density functional theory (DFT). Both types dissociate into two 1/2 < c + a > partials on the second-order pyramidal planes. These DFT results are then allowed to relax w ...
