Classic synchronous consensus algorithms are leaderless in that processes exchange proposals, choose the maximum value and decide when they see the same choice across a couple of rounds. Indulgent consensus algorithms are typically leader-based. Although t ...

Weak solutions arise naturally in the study of the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations both from an abstract regularity/blow-up perspective and from physical theories of turbulence. This thesis studies the structure and size of singular set of such weak solu ...

This paper proposes a shape optimization algorithm based on the principles of Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) in which the parameterization of the geometry enters the problem formulation as an additional PDE-constraint. Inspired by the isoparametric principle ...

This work is devoted to the study of the main models which describe the motion of incompressible fluids, namely the Navier-Stokes, together with their hypodissipative version, and the Euler equations. We will mainly focus on the analysis of non-smooth weak ...

This paper is devoted to the distributed complexity of finding an approximation of the maximum cut (MAXCUT) in graphs. A classical algorithm consists in letting each vertex choose its side of the cut uniformly at random. This does not require any communica ...

Network alignment is a method to align nodes that belong to the same entity from different networks. A well-known application of network alignment is to map user accounts from different social networks that belong to the same person. As network alignment h ...

Energy piles, due to their dual roles, are exposed to temperature change throughout their life time, which may cause axial displacements, additional axial stresses and changes in the shaft resistance along their lengths. The extent of these effects highly ...

In this paper we propose a new, purely algebraic, Petrov-Galerkin reduced basis (RB) method to solve the parametrized Stokes equations, where parameters serve to identify the (variable) domain geometry. Our method is obtained as an algebraic least squares ...

The multiquery solution of parametric partial differential equations (PDEs), that is, PDEs depending on a vector of parameters, is computationally challenging and appears in several engineering contexts, such as PDE-constrained optimization, uncertainty qu ...

Motivated by the dynamics of microbubbles near catalytic surfaces in bubble-powered microrockets, we consider theoretically the growth of a free spherical bubble near a flat no-slip surface in a Stokes flow. The flow at the bubble surface is characterised ...

In this paper we propose a method for the strong imposition of random Dirichlet boundary conditions in the Dynamical Low Rank (DLR) approximation of parabolic PDEs and, in particular, incompressible Navier Stokes equations. We show that the DLR variational ...

We explore a few algebraic and geometric structures, through certain questions posed by modern cryptography. We focus on the cases of discrete logarithms in finite fields of small characteristic, the structure of isogeny graphs of ordinary abelian varietie ...

A disk that is free to rotate about its axis and connected to a torsional spring behaves as a damped oscillator when twisted and released. The initial elastic energy is periodically turned to kinetic energy and it gets progressively dissipated by the visco ...

In the present thesis, we delve into different extremal and algebraic problems arising from combinatorial geometry. Specifically, we consider the following problems. For any integer

n\ge 3

, we define

e(n)

to be the minimum positive integer such that an ...

In this work, we focus on the Dynamical Low Rank (DLR) approximation of PDEs equations with random parameters. This can be interpreted as a reduced basis method, where the approximate solution is expanded in separable form over a set of few deterministic b ...

We consider finite element error approximations of the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations defined on a randomly perturbed domain, the perturbation being small. Introducing a random mapping, these equations are transformed into PDEs on a fixed re ...

Stimulation of peripheral nerves has transiently restored lost sensation and has the potential to alleviate motor deficits. However, incomplete characterization of the long-term usability and bio-integration of intra-neural implants has restricted their us ...

In this paper, we propose a full computational framework to simulate the hemodynamics in the aorta including the valve. Closed and open valve surfaces, as well as the lumen aorta, are reconstructed directly from medical images using new ad hoc algorithms, ...

Flow simulations in pipelined channels and several kinds of parametrized configurations have a growing interest in many life sciences and industrial applications. Applications may be found in the analysis of the blood flow in specific compartments of the c ...

In this paper we review and we extend the reduced basis approximation and a posteriori error estimation for steady Stokes flows in affinely parametrized geometries, focusing on the role played by the Brezzi's and Babuska's stability constants. The crucial ...
