We consider the problem of defining and fitting models of autoregressive time series of probability distributions on a compact interval of Double-struck capital R. An order-1 autoregressive model in this context is to be understood as a Markov chain, where ...

Decentralized storage networks offer services with intriguing possibilities to reduce inequalities in an extremely centralized market. Fair distribution of rewards, however, is still a persistent problem in the current generation of decentralized applicati ...

In this paper, we propose an analytical stochastic dynamic programming (SDP) algorithm to address the optimal management problem of price-maker community energy storage. As a price-maker, energy storage smooths price differences, thus decreasing energy arb ...

We consider fluid flows, governed by the Navier-Stokes equations, subject to a steady symmetry-breaking bifurcation and forced by a weak noise acting on a slow timescale. By generalizing the multiple-scale weakly nonlinear expansion technique employed in t ...

In the last decade, DNA has been increasingly investigated as an alternative medium for cold data storage, presenting several advantages over standard hard drives such as a higher density, longer lifespan and lower energy consumption. However, such coding ...

Analytical engines rely on in-memory data caching to avoid storage accesses and provide timely responses by keeping the most frequently accessed data in memory. Purely frequency- and time-based caching decisions, however, are a proxy of the expected query ...

A kernel method for estimating a probability density function from an independent and identically distributed sample drawn from such density is presented. Our estimator is a linear combination of kernel functions, the coefficients of which are determined b ...

With more than 220 large dams in operation, compared to its surface of some 41ʹ000 km2, Switzerland has a very large fleet. They were erected to meet various economic and protection needs. Their main assignments concern the storage of water for later use, ...

We present a framework for performing regression when both covariate and response are probability distributions on a compact and convex subset of

\R^d

. Our regression model is based on the theory of optimal transport and links the conditional Fr'echet m ...

We evaluate the effect of storage conditions of uncured encapsulant rolls and the potential consequences on photovoltaic (PV) module performance. We show the impact of residual water trapped inside laminated double glass PV modules after lamination and dur ...

Biorefineries hold the potential to provide products and energy carriers at reduced environmental impact compared to their fossil-based counterparts. Thus, they can contribute to the decarbonization of sectors in which electrification of demands is challen ...

Background - Thequalityof red blood cells (RBCs) stored in red cell concentrates (RCCs) is influenced by processing, storage and donor characteristics, and can have a clinical impact on transfused patients. To evaluate RBC properties and their potential im ...

This paper proposes a safe reinforcement learning algorithm for generation bidding decisions and unit maintenance scheduling in a competitive electricity market environment. In this problem, each unit aims to find a bidding strategy that maximizes its reve ...

The development of hemoglobin (Hb)-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) holds a lot of potential to overcome important drawbacks of donor blood such as a short shelf life or the potential risk of infection. However, a crucial limitation of current HBOCs is the au ...

Correct prediction of particle transport by surface waves is crucial in many practical applications such as search and rescue or salvage operations and pollution tracking and clean-up efforts. Recent results by Deike et al. (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 829, 2017, ...

In the current era of big data, aggregation queries on high-dimensional datasets are frequently utilized to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and correlations critical for effective business decision-making. Data cubes facilitate such queries by employing p ...

A strategic roadmap for noncarbonized fuels is a global priority, and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is a key focus of the Paris Agreement to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures. In this context, hydrogen is a promising noncarbonized fue ...

With the increasing dominance of SSDs for local storage, today's network mounted virtual disks can no longer offer competitive performance. We propose a Log-Structured Virtual Disk (LSVD) that couples log-structured approaches at both the cache and storage ...

Analytical engines rely on in-memory caching to avoid disk accesses and provide timely responses by keeping the most frequently accessed data in memory. Purely frequency- & time-based caching decisions, however, are a proxy of the expected query execution ...

Why biological quality-control systems fail is often mysterious. Specifically, checkpoints such as the DNA damage checkpoint or the spindle assembly checkpoint are overriden after prolonged arrests allowing cells to continue dividing despite the continued ...
