IMPACT (Isotope and Muon Production with Advanced Cyclotron and Target Technologies) is a proposed initiative envisaged for the high-intensity proton accelerator facility (HIPA) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). As part of IMPACT, a radioisotope target ...

The present invention relates to a method and device for measuring m/z ratios of ions in ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) mass spectrometry. The described ion traps for ICR mass spectrometry are distinct from the previous configurations by having one or many ...

Wireless optoelectronic devices are fabricated by controlling the porosity of p-type silicon, enabling in vivo efficient, non-genetic optoelectronic modulation of peripheral nerve activity. ...

In a synchrotron accelerator, the beam trajectory is controlled thanks to magnets, where superconducting technology allows to generate very strong magnetic fields. This was a key element in the construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world lar ...

We present herein the design of a nano-electrospray ion source capable of reliable generation of large quantities of microsolvated ions. The source is based on a triple molecular skimmer scheme and can be quickly tuned to generate bare ions or their ionic ...

ELMs and Sawteeth, located in different parts of the plasma, are similar from a control engineering point of view. Both manifest themselves through quiescent periods interrupted by periodic collapses. For both, large collapses, following long quiescent per ...

In microelectronics applications, SnAgCu lead-free solder joints play the important role of ensuring both the mechanical and electrical integrity of the components. In such applications, the SnAgCu joints are subjected to elevated homologous temperatures f ...

Since the signature of the ITER treaty in 2006, a new research programme targeting the emergence of a new generation of neutral beam (NB) system for the future fusion reactor (DEMO Tokamak) has been underway between several laboratories in Europe. The spec ...

The last decades have been punctuated by the development of revolutionary analytical technologies that have enabled the analysis of biomolecular structures and unraveled the roles they play in biological systems. However, certain classes of biomolecules re ...

Ion ejection from charged helium nanodroplets exposed to intense femtosecond soft X-ray pulses is studied by single-pulse ion time-of-flight (TOF) spectroscopy in coincidence with small-angle X-ray scattering. Scattering images encode the droplet size and ...

Recent experimental and theoretical findings suggest that the concept of time-dependent instantaneous frequency(IF) is required to comprehensively describe ion motion and mass spectra generation in Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS). Here, we deriv ...

Ionization efficiency is an important factor for ion sources in mass spectrometry and ion mobility spectrometry. Using helium as the discharge gas, acetone as the sample, and high-field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) as the ion detection meth ...

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with density functional theory (DFT) computations can characterise the adsorption orientation of a molecule on a nanoparticle surface. When using DFT to simulate SERS on a silver surface, one typically emp ...

Ion cyclotron resonance heating, which we refer to as ICRH-SS, with the quasilinear (QL) separatrix (i.e., the separatrix in the space of QL routes of ion acceleration) located in the region of passing particles is studied. The aim of ICRH-SS is to minimiz ...

Electron capture dissociation (ECD) tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is a powerful analytical tool for peptide and protein structure analysis. The product ion abundance (PIA) distribution in ECD MS/MS is known to vary as a function of electron irradiation ...

Characterizing the complex structure of such molecules with highly resolving, vacuum-based methods like scanning probe microscopy requires their transfer into the gas phase and further onto an atomically clean surface in ultrahigh vacuum without causing ad ...

In this paper, we present the guiding-centre transformation of the radiation reaction force of a classical point charge travelling in a non-uniform magnetic field. The transformation is valid as long as the gyroradius of the charged particles is much small ...
